For example, if an article of 500 words is written on "How to stay fit and healthy" and the keyword is weightloss then if the keyword appears 10 times in the article then the keyword density will be 2%. Similarly if the keyword is of more than 1 word like "weightloss for women" and if the keyword appears 5 times in the article then the total appearance is 15 words so the keyword density will be 3%.
The most important point is that the keyword density should be between 1%-4%. If the keyword density is less than 1% then the search engines will not give preference to it and if the percentage goes above 4% then it will be considered as keyword spamming.
