Should I include keywords in my page links?

Just started working on a static html site and was wondering if I should include my keywords as part of the page link url?

For instance, if i had a game site, my page title might say: my-free-games.html.

Would that help me rank higher in Google?

Having your keywords in the URL (slug) can help people know what that page is about just from the URL. So having keyword friendly URLs really is friendly for people. But excessive keyword usage in your URL is another matter. Sometimes, you might have a really long title. But would you want or do you even need to use all of the words that are in your title in your URL at all? Does that make it any more or less keyword and people friendly? If all the words are different and you've removed any stop words from it then that can be okay as there may only be one word in it that the searcher is looking for. But using the same keywords in the URL too much is considered excessive and bad usability.

So if you have a title that is something long like "How to Create a Really Long Title But Make it Keyword Friendly for People and Search Engines" you wouldn't want the url to look like "how-to-create-a-really-long-title-but-make-it-keyword-friendly-for-people-and-search-engines" but you might want it to be shorter so it makes it easier to remember and just better looking over something like "create-really-long-title-make-keyword-friendly" now that would be much better in my opinion but that's just me and what I'd do!

It's been awhile since I used Wordpress, but don't they take the title of the blog post and use it as part of the page link? I'm thinking that's right, though maybe there is a way to change a setting so that you can name the link anything you want.

Yes definitely, having the main keywords in the link is crucial when it comes to better ranking. Just make sure you also have a related Title, description and keywords for that page. As well as relevant content.

No, these will not help you whatsoever. Unless I'm wrong and forgetting something then file names will not affect anything. The only time that helps is when it's like /words_here/ but if that was /words_here.php then you get nothing from it.

Hi,
We agree with the advice given by user "Rancid", however, Google frowns on excessive usage
ex.www.domainname.com/seo/localseo/serp

The better ones would be
www.domainname.com/seo/
www.domainname.com/localseo

sometime up to second level is ok.
www.domainname.com/seo/localseo/

This is new to me because my understanding of keywords is that it is included in the tagging when you upload the content to a new web page. If the name of the page includes the keyword I don’t think it should have an advantage with the search engines because the keyword is part of the name and it has no other meaning. But with the page title I guess it has an influence with the search engines.
