    SEO = Search Engine Optimization: is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's .

    SMM = Social Media Marketing: refers to the process of gaining website traffic or attention through social media sites.

    SMO = Social Media Optimization: refers to the use of a number of social media outlets and communities to generate publicity to increase the awareness of a product, brand or event.

    SEM = Search Engine Marketing: is a form of internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) through both optimization and advertising.

    Thanks very much for sharing the information about the acronyms in question. This is the first time that I have come across SMM (social media marketing) although I know about marketing in social media. And with SMO, I am still new to this social media optimization because maybe it is the second of the SEO for websites. But whatever those acronyms are, they are going to be used by website owners who are needing traffic to their sites.

    SEO and SEM are basically the same, SEO is optimizing pages for the search engines and SEM is marketing the pages for the search engines. The same goes for SMM and SMO just with social media sites instead of normal sites and search engines. That's as basic as I can put it lol.

    SMM - Social Media Marketing, The paid advertisements which placed under Social Media Sites like Facebook, Twitter, My Space, Youtube and more.

    SMO - Social Media Optimization, promoting your Services or Products on Social Media Sites for being more popular about yourself marked as Social Media Optimization.

    SEM - Search Engine Marketing worked under Paid Ad's which placed under Google, Bing, MSN as AD's with specific keywords and also known as Non-Organic Search.
