SEO stand for search engine optimization and SEM stand for search engine marketing.

I have been seeing this SEM many times before but I didn’t bother to know what it is exactly. With SEO, I think I completely know its meaning and purpose plus the basic methods. Search engine marketing means you use the search engine to market your website. Hmm, that looks complicated because it is easier to promote your website in other websites and social media but not in search engines.

Basically SEO or Search Engine Optimization helps sites to have a good google ranking. SEM on the other hand is closely tied up to PPC.

Search engine marketing is a type of internet marketing to increase your visibility in search engines.

This is achieved through things such as paid placements, contextual advertising, paid inclusions, etc.

SEM is also often a term for SEO as SEM is in fact a type of SEO I guess you could say.

I think Search Engine Marketing is advertising on the search list. Am I right on my understanding? When you advertise on a search engine your link will appear as one of the links on the search list even if it does not have the proper ranking simply because you are paying for the appearance of your link. That is an effective way to get traffic from search engines because you don’t need to do SEO work that is tedious which takes a lot of your time and effort.
