    Power Words - Does it have ANY effect on SEO?

    Power words.

    Power words are super effective, amazing and extremely important when it comes to writing. Especially when you try to increase the *CTR.

    *CTR

    Click-through rate (CTR) is the ratio of users who click on a specific link to the number of total users who view a page, email, or advertisement. It is commonly used to measure the success of an online advertising campaign for a particular website as well as the effectiveness of email campaigns. [Source.]



    That being said, it's vital for everyone's success.

    However, even though we've been talking about power words previously, I accidentally overheard a conversation about this..

    Is Power Words essential or important in ANY way, in terms of rankings? - When it comes to SEO that is.

    Even though I'm a total SEO novice, I truly doubt power words would increase your rankings. Sure, Google might be awesome and super smart, but Power Words.. Seriously? - I truly doubt that I would sky rocket my rankings on Google just because I used a few power words in my titles or in my content.. That just sounds odd.

    Don't you mean "Power Words - Do "they" have ANY effect on SEO?" since "it" refers to a single word. Where as "they" refers to a group or a collection of words. Sorry to correct you but I just can't help myself sometimes lol Power Words - Does it have ANY effect on SEO?

    So do power words have any effect on SEO? That's a good question! The word or words you are trying to rank for, regardless to if they're power words or not. Would be more important to use when wanting to rank for them, regardless to any power words.

    Although that said, when CTR plays a large role in SEO. Mostly in that sites that get clicked on the most in the SERPS are the sites that Google generally ranks higher because of that. Then using power words over or along with the main words you're trying to rank for would play a part in just how many click through's you actually get.

    And where power words are just a play on words, it's just about using the right choice of words in your title that would make people want to click on it. But it really depends what the subject or topic is about. If it was about training unruly, disobedient puppies. Then the power words to include would be "Training", "Puppy", "Unruly" and "Disobedient". And then try and string a title from it like "How to Train Your Unruly and Disobedient Puppy". That way anyone with a puppy they need to train that also happens to be an unruly and disobedient puppy would be more attracted to and more likely to click on that title/link.

    Besides the fact that I'm not native in English, and besides you, being a "teacher" right now... I appreciate your answer ;)

    I do understand why and how you should use power words, and I can totally see why certain power words will bring you greater results than others, as power words are indeed used to be "powerful". So a superb title with awesome power words will bring you more or better results than only a decent title with worse words. - That's crystal clear so far.

    But in terms of SEO. Your answer is in fact no then? - Power words won't rank or your rankings won't benefit because you've used power words in your content. It's the content itself that ranks, with or without power words.

    Power word won't affect your rankings in any bad and direct way as far as you are using your main keywords in one for or another in both title tag and meta description.

    In fact, power words can actually get you better positions because organic CTR tends to increase when you use power words in your Title tags. Google sees you have a higher than average CTR for your positions and will dedicate you provide a better user experience, therefore getting your a better position in search results is needed.

    Thank you very much for this clarification Cristian. I appreciate it! - So power words are crucial then. No matter if it's for actual SEO, Rankings or CTR. As it will benefit you in one way or another somehow. Power Words - Does it have ANY effect on SEO?

    Maybe the use of power words has a positive effect on the readers but I don’t think it is relevant to the SEO of your site because power words are treated as just words by search engines. I had read an article about power words that they are similar to the last song syndrome where the reader’s mind has a strong recall of the power word or words. Again, the effect is on the readers only.
