Why bidding for page 2 can actually increase your ROI.

So many people are wanting to set up a website and strike it rich, but they don't know the little things that can destroy them relatively quick and make them go back to their 9 to 5 day job.

I'm going to go over a little trick I've used for a while when I'm running a PPC campaign on Adwords, Bing/Yahoo Ads, 7search, and any other PPC platforms I use on a regular basis

So, we all know what Adwords is and what it is used for I hope. If you don't, it's a platform ran by Google where you pay per click or per 1,000 impressions. It's an advertising platform which allows you to instantly get traffic to your website, if you can afford it.

A lot of people will set up websites without knowing the main keywords for their niche that get the most traffic. Usually the bigger keywords will cost more per click, but don't let that scare you! Whenever I find these intimidating keywords I always think "Hmmm, I wonder if I can still siphon traffic from this with a low bid" and the only way to figure that out is to try

I'll figure out exactly how much the bids cost to land on the top 3 and adjust my bids to around 50% of that. Adwords will give you suggestions on how much it costs to land on the first page because they want you to spend more money, and that's your secret weapon. Use their greed against them and bid low to land on the second page If your suggested CPC is $5.00 then you can bid $0.90 and see what happens. If you're not getting any clicks, then you're not losing any money, so don't be afraid to bid low and increase it slowly each day until you start getting some traffic.

This little trick works well for high traffic keywords which are usually the short tail ones like "Law Firm". That's just an example keyword, but let's say it gets 100,000 searches a month. That would mean that roughly 10% of those 100,000 searches are making it to page 2 if you're lucky. If you're bidding to be on top of page 2 then you'll be seen before anyone else Google wants your money, so they'll show your ad if you bid accordingly.

You won't get a ton of traffic, but you will save a boat load of money and you can do this for literally every keyword in your niche until you become the big dog and can pay full price per click and land at #1 every time

Great strategy Razzy! We're doing this all the time with our Adwords campaigns, I have some teammates that do this all day long, testing over and over different things, bids, keywords, ads, etc only to find the right combination that spends at least money as possible but gets us the best target traffic possible capable of creating ROI.

I've gone to some Adwords courses in the past and the people are Google were always willing to help us better understand the system and how to get the most of it, it was pretty cool if you think about it, giving the fact that in essence they want you to spend as more as possible.

Now I feel so silly knowing that so many people are trying to get onto page 2 with Adwords and I always thought is was essential to be on page 1.

Razzy I saw you, or someone else, mention this before in a community discussion a while back. I wish I had come across this a few years ago!

When I had my online baby store I was making use of Google Adwords and I always thought it was essential to be on page 1. I would get emails from Google giving me tips on increasing my hits from my campaigns and I always got these emails suggesting that I increase my bid amounts so I can rank higher and I always increased my bids. Now I feel quite silly since I was spending a small fortune.

Knowing this tip would have saved me loads of money! I am not currently using Adwords but I am so going to try this out when next I give them a go!

Pardon me for going against the tide but I still prefer to be on page 1 because the way I do my search the links in page are usually not covered. I would always check on the first 3 links that are directly relevant to my search and I go down until I reach the bottom. More often than not, I do not reach page 2 unless I am looking for something that is rare. Maybe that trick of being on the top of page 2 works and I cannot argue with that.
