I am so chuffed, I have a blog that I have hardly posted any content on and I have literally not updated it since April this year because I have been too busy with other work.
This blog is where I share information about recovery from addiction, so it is very personal. My goal here has not really been to make money, but more to just share what I know and maybe someone else will be able to find recovery after hearing my story...
Anyway for a quiet blog that has not been updated in 6 months at all, well it looks like Google really loves it right?
I just had a look at my analytics today for this website for the first time in months so I am quite happy.

Wow that's quite a rise! Good job! The good thing about blogging is that sometimes, you don't have to do that much all the time. And the older the blog gets, the more mature it gets and the more Google likes it. It's good to update it from time to time. Nobody likes an abandoned site with tumbleweeds blowing around. But it just goes to show that your previous content is being ranked and still fulfilling a purpose to those readers of that content. I would say that kind of content is kind of evergreen content as well because no matter how old it is, your personal story and what you share/shared about your addictions is always going to be helpful and relevant to someone later on down the line. In a few months, or even in a few years time! That kind of stuff never goes out of date when there are a lot of people battling addictions of all kinds and are reaching out to try and find someone else who has perhaps, been in their shoes, walked that path and overcome it. I know Google can't think like how a human being thinks. It can't think like "Oh this is a helpful blog to people because this person is showing how to overcome addictions and is a living testament that it can be done, so I'll rank this blog high because of that." But people will think that! And that's what obviously makes your blog valuable in the eyes of your visitors and readers who are visiting it and staying on it for a while and Google CAN see that and the more that happens, the more it likes your site and the more organic traffic Google goes on to send it in time. :)

I wouldn't see it as a bad thing to monetize the website, as you do need funds to pay for the cost of running it, especially if the website is gaining momentum. The website needs to be able to pay for itself, ya know? If you don't already, you could apply Google adsense to the website to earn just about enough to cover any overhead costs. If you have some money left over, you could possibly hire someone to write blog posts for you, since you don't have enough time, and hopefully this will encourage Google even more to keep coming back to index and rank certain posts.
So I wouldn't necessarily see it as a bad thing to monetize the addiction blog, or even to profit from it. I also don't see it as being 'greedy', and 'making money off of addiction' as it were. If you can pay for it with no problem, than that is great as well.
