    When does google update their SERPS? How often does this happen?

    It depends on the traffic of your website - for example, if too few people visit your website from Google, then Google will index it less often. SERP updates range from every few minutes to a couple of months depending on how frequently you add more content, modify existing content, or on how many people visit your site.

    I didn’t know that the indexing of the site depends on the amount of traffic. Does that mean that if the site is in number 100 position in the search list of Google and it has no more activity then it will remain in that ranking for a longer time since Google will not be indexing the site due to non activity and lesser traffic? Maybe that is the main reason for doing SEO work on the site in order to get traffic and have increased ranking.

    Very often now. I've seen Google index and rank a site in 24 hours. This indicates that their internal tables are always ticking.

    I think it depends to how you update your site and ping it. Google will regularly visit and indexed your updates every time there are changes going on.

    I think it is every day because sites are crawled more often than others especially those with a higher page rank.

    Its depends on the website. But think google updates its general index almost every second.
    I generally noticed fast indexing for my new content, 1-2 days, at the most. But if you have lots of backlinks your will be indexed right away.

    It’s nice to hear the Google is updating frequently and I believe that the more updates you have on your website, the quicker the update by Google. However, I have seen some discussions that the effect of SEO work takes a long time to be seen which means Google is not re-evaluating the ranking of the websites in their search list results. Probably it is one way for Google to confuse us so we wouldn’t have a hint of their algorithm.
