Should freelancers have personal websites?

Do you think freelancers need a personal website?

Some freelancers may think it is a good idea to have a personal website with all the information about you and your portfolio of work. I think this is important if you are an independent seller because you need to sell yourself to them and a personal website is a bit like your CV. You can also generate customers by doing SEO on your website and rank well on SERP. However, if you use a marketplace like SEO Clerks, then a personal website is less important since buyers can probably find enough information on your profile although it could help.

I think that I have enough exposure on SEOClerks, and actually now that I have been here for about 2 years I have several buyers who order on a regular basis, thus filling up my schedule every time. I do not recall every having a free day this past year. Therefore I do not feel the need to have a personal website as well. I am pleased with the reputation I built up and with the orders I get. However for those who feel the need for more exposure and to try to attract more sales a website is a good idea.

If you are already successful, you may not need a different platform to sell your service. However, you are just a seller here, you are not a brand. In order to establish yourself as a brand, you need a website. Furthermore, if you are selling through a third party website, you are also paying commission, if you sell from your website, you do not have to pay commission.

I think a blogsite is more like it for a freelancer to showcase your products and services. Where before it is the calling card, now it is the website address that is more important in promoting oneself. One advantage of a personal site is the continuity of the pronotion that it would appear to be like a transaction log. It can also contain testimonials which is paramount to business success.

That's true. You might be freelancing on a number of websites. Sometimes you have to show your portfolio. If you have a website, it helps. Having a personal website also builds your brand as a freelancer. If you work on freelancing sites, there will always be a cut on your earnings. however, if you manage to get freelancing jobs from your website, you will receive what you are changing.

I would say yes to having your own website if you're a freelancer. I consider myself a freelancer even though I have a team of people I can work with on any given project. I market my company and depending on what type of work comes in, I hire specific people (other freelancers) to work with me. If I didn't have my personal and business website I'd be missing a few different revenue streams that help me pay my bills each month Should freelancers have personal websites?

Having a personal website can be as fancy or minimal as you'd like. I've seen plenty of people putting up resume type websites that show companies who they are and what they've done. A resume type website is also a good way to show your programming and design skills, if that's the type of work you're going after.

Having a portfolio type website helps promote who you are by the work you've already done and I would recommend it to everyone. I don't personally have a portfolio website because all of the work we do gets put on the business website under our portfolio section Should freelancers have personal websites? I've had so many clients be sold before they contact us just because they browsed the work we previously did. A lot of them want websites designed just like the ones in our portfolio, so that makes is extremely easy and quick since we already have all the code done Should freelancers have personal websites?

If you're looking for a job, set up a resume type website that shows your skills. If you're looking to market yourself as a freelancer, set up a portfolio type website and you'll get more leads and sales than if you were just talking through your email to someone and letting them know what you can do.

I've used plenty of freelance type websites for design work and people send me to their portfolio sites or profiles on image hosting sites and that's how I tend to choose who I want to work with. Their profiles or website sell me, not what they say ;) Let your previous work do the closing Should freelancers have personal websites?

Well said. A personal website helps in many ways. One, you can sell your products and services directly and earn 100 percent from the clients. Two, you can showcase your portfolio and build trust amongst the buyers. Three, you can build your brand.

A personal website or blog could be a superb "tool" to gain affiliates, new clients and to get more exposure, but if you're working on SEOClerks, you could easily use your profile page in the same way. Promote that instead of your website and you'll reach out to more people too. Just like you would with a blog or website.

If I succeed to bring my entire business to SEOClerks instead of operating this privately?, I will most likely get me some nice business cards so I can hand them out if I stumble across people in real life who's looking for something specific, instead of just telling them about SEOClerks. However, when I do this, I will most likely have a redirect url for this. Something like "thisismywebsite.com" which automatically redirects to my profile page on SEOClerks. And, I would obviously include my affiliate link too.

Best Regards,
hitmeasap

As you rightly said I think that's the way it should be to have more clients.

if one is an independent freelancer then a website with his or her profile would help bring more clients because they'll get to know who they're really dealing with.

But if one is already working with a site like SEOclerks where you have to upload your profile then no need for a website.

Yes definitely. Especially if they're not using a marketplace like SEOClerks then your own website is another revenue stream which you can promote, market and SEO and use to list out all your skills or services that you have or can do. It's also like a resume, CV or online portfolio that can show samples of your work or your past clients work which can help you to drum up even more work.

Now there are many freelance sites out there one can use to list out all his or her skills, credentials, qualifications and experience. And for some people that's more than enough and they get plenty of work from those sites. Be it Elance, Freelancer, Upwork or SEOClerks. But your own site can also be as equally effective at gaining new clients as well. It's like one of those things that's better to have and not need than it is to need and not have. And considering it's cheap as cheaps to buy your own domain name and hosting for it. And you can create a fairly professional looking website using something like WordPress that has lots of features built into into it on a shoe-string budget today.

So there really is no reason not to have your own website whether it's a simple portfolio type website or a full blown business site. This has given me some ideas actually, I don't currently have my own portfolio website but will likely make one soon using my name or something in the domain name and I can list out all my services that I sell here on there and then link them directly to SEOClerks to purchase it.

And I prefer to sell via SEOClerks because there's a deadline and you have to do it to get the money. Where as selling on your own site, you get the money first and there's no real dead line you have to meet before you're able to get your money so it means you can't slack off, procrastinate or delay in any way which you shouldn't do of course but there's complacency when you sell yourself and take the money first where as there's less of that when you have to deliver first before you're able to get your money for the work. That's one reason why I prefer to work for my clients on SEOClerks because it keeps my service quality up and I don't get complacent. Should freelancers have personal websites?

Hi MasterA Thanks for your another nice question. I personally do not believe as a freelancer he needs to owner of personal website. And I saw many successful freelancer and they do not have website but doing very good freelancing and earning very handsome amount each month. And as my starting period I did not have any website. And I did very good job without personal website. Yes now I have and it is just time matter as freelancer he owned several website by period.

On the other hand I agree with sense of independent seller or freelancer he can sale product his own way. And it is very good sign as long lasting freelancer. But if you try to establish working on marketplace like SEOclerks, you do not need to have a personal website.
My final comments as a freelancer personal website for freelancing may good but not mandatory for doing freelancing job.

Thanks by Ajlancer

As a buyer I like it when a seller has their own website. It makes me feel like they are not some fly by night seller. I have visited my favorite sellers website and connected with him on social networks too. I still place my orders here because it is the most convenient for me.

I personally would recommend every freelancer to have own blog. It's the way of building trust, way to promote your services, share your experience, build your portfolio, share customer's testimonials and many more other things which can improve freelancer's online business

Yes, I think it is a great idea for freelancers to create their own websites. On their own websites, they can explain their expertise, sell their services, and help build trust in you (the freelancer. Also on their own websites, they can have a special section for their customers to write or record their experiences with you. That will help with uneasy feelings people get from ordering from online services. Another benefit to having your own website, helps you get better connected with your clients because you are able to put all of your contact information where it is easy accessible.

yes, a ffreelancer should have his/her own website where he can post his services and products. Well, no body will be searching a freelancer name if they want to buy a service or product, however, if the freelancer uses domain name with his expertise as the keywords, people are likely to discover the freelancer.
having a website is very beneficial. Frerelancer can not only do a free marketing and promotion but also sell his services and products through his website. When a freelancer has a website, he can also establish his brand. Furthermore, he can link his website to his works across thr web

Having a personal website is quite good for any freelancer really mean about making it online. I mean that it is on those sites that you can get to put down your works so that once you come in contact with new clients, you can get to link them to check your works on those sites you have.
