A restricted environment in which certain functions are prohibited. Like paypal have a sandbox system which is used mostly at the time of some new implementations.

its where you get penalized from google if you do something bad. Also its a protective thing around a software for example sandoboxie.

Pardon me for saying this because I have read in some forums that the so called Sandbox is just a myth. Anyway the Sandbox is a penalty by Google for sites that have violated the SEO methods for gaining traffic. It is like doing the black hat SEO methods. But again there is no proof that Sandbox exists and that there are sites that were penalized. I wonder where that term Sandbox came from.
