Where do your forum members come from?

If you have a niche forum, you might assume most of your forum members would come from other related forums. But, sometimes you can get forum members from unrelated sites, even Facebook. Do you know where your forum members are coming from or what brought them to your site?

Most of our forum members were merged from a now defunct forum that is no longer active. The members needed a new place to hang out online and we provided that.

Just friends of mine and some members of sites that I am actively posting on. Very few people that are members of my forum that I don't actually know.

Just friends of mine and some members of sites that I am actively posting on. Very few people that are members of my forum that I don't actually know.

That's where I got most of my original forum members, from sites that I had been active on. Maybe it works that way for other niches than general chat too.

Im not a forum owner but I do have several Facebook Groups which has a global membership. About half of the members are from my country and another 25 percent comes from Asian countries while the other 25 percent are mostly divided into French, British, Americans, Russians, Czechs and other European countries.
