    Alexa is one of the leading internet statistics engines. It keeps a "top billion" chart, where every webpage on the planet has its place. Beginning with Google and Facebook, it goes all the way down to the gazillionth site no one knows about. It's a chart that gives you insight on how your business is doing through calculating the popularity of your site. As a quick overview and analysis yes as it can tell you how popular a website is and how much traffic it's receiving. The lower the Alexa rating the more popular or more traffic it's receiving but you wouldn't want to use just Alexa for that there are many other sites out there it should be used in conjunction with such as WooRank, Compete etc.

    I use Alexa rank to check how my website is performing in comparison to my competitors' websites. I also use alexa rank to determine the popularity of any website. However, I don't trust alexa rank too much because the rank is purely based on traffic and traffic can be fake. If someone used traffic from traffic exchange, the alexa rank will improve, however, that is not a true rank for that website.

    Yes, but you need to get a feeling about it's rankings. If Alexa is above 1 million, than it is useless. Only geeks have Alexa toolbar installed, so a flower site can have 1000 visitors per day and Alexa rank of 1 million, while webmaster site can have 100 unique visitors per day and Alexa rank of 150.000.

    Alexa ranking is primarily based on traffic, and traffic can be easily faked. If you use traffic exchange, your alexa rank will improve. However, traffic from traffic exchange do no convert, therefore, there will be no sales or ad clicks.
    If you want to flip your website, high alexa rank can help you. I have alexa toolbar on my browser and I rely on alexa rank to take a note on how my website is performing.

    The Alexa ranking of websites can help us in our evaluation of the other sites particularly with reference to the traffic that they get. However I have read in some discussions that the statistics in Alexa is not up to date and some are even dated one month ago. Nevertheless the figures corresponding to the sites can still be useful as an estimated number that is not really far from the current figures.
