I know of sites that rank from no-follow only! The best option is a good mix so it looks natural

Some dofollow links are automatically created for every domain when they get crawled by some spiders. I don't believe 100% nofollow linked sites exist

They are great for improving your link profile's diversity.
If kept at a 10% ratio, this would be both very effective and organic.

Not if that no follow link was from a site that was a related site to yours no! That would be a daft thing to turn your nose up on! You do want a nice healthy mix of do follow and no follow links. Anchor text and URL links, citations etc. And you don't want to build do follow links to your site only as that would stick out like a soar thumb! It would be obvious that you are trying to game the SERPs from that. Try not to think about if the links you build should be no follow or do follow or whatever. Instead, try to think about the quality of the site that the link is on. If it's related to your site in someway then it shouldn't really matter what the link rel tag was/is because it's a related site and that goes a long way!

As I had posted in another discussion the no-follow link has a purpose of its own. It is mainly used to block the search engine crawlers from seeing the content that may be a copied content. At least the duplication cannot be detected by Google. With your backlink in that no-follow web page you don’t get a benefit from the search engines but you can still get traffic from the readers of that web page. That means there is also a benefit in posting on a no-follow link.
