    My take for real followers, i.e. not robots and not the paid followers, is to tweet interesting messages. I know that retweeting interesting messages can also bring forth good results but your original interesting message is the best. Your followers may retweet your message and therefore that can result in new followers for you. If you can tweet several quality messages in a day, that can result in a big number of new followers every day.
