I may be ordering backlinks for my website so Backlinking has a short or long term effect on websites?

I wouldnt put too much reliability in thinking the link will be around much longer than a year. Some people will sell links for a year, but let the site go when the hosting or domain renewals come up. I believe long term has a positive effect, as it's possible to get more traffic/clicks the longer your link is on a page.

Backlink has long term effects on websites. If you are buying link, then check PageRank, Domain Authority, Page Authority of the site before buying.
When you go with cheap links, you will face the problem that some people don't renew their domains/ hosting. But who have quality sites, they won't let their domain expire at any cost. So always go with the quality ones.

backlinks have long term effect. When you get backlinks for your website, neither your rank will improve next day nor you will start getting traffic instantly. It takes time for to see the positive effects of backlink. When your site and webpages get backlinks, the effects are long term.
Backlinking should come from quality websites, authoritative sites. You should always try to get backlink from dot gov, dot edu, dot org sites. Avoid getting backlink from spam and scam sites.
You should never resort to buying backlinks, those who sell backlinks will link your site to harmful sites and you might be
penalized.

My understanding of backlinks is the link of your website that you post on another site. For example you have posted about your website in a forum. Until that post is not deleted then your backlink remains existing in that forum. And when someone clicks on your backlink then that will give your website traffic. That also goes for social media that sometimes even old posts are being read by your friends. That means the backlinks are for long term until it gets deleted.
