4 things to avoid when starting your first website

Whenever you're starting your first website, there are plenty of paths to take, but most of them aren't needed, or they're too advanced for someone just starting. When I started, I never had anyone telling me how to do things, when to do them, and what I should avoid so I thought I would type up this discussion to help out as many people as possible.

There are plenty of ways to make money online, but not all of them will be suited for you and how you want to work throughout the day. No matter what you're starting with, make sure the following four things aren't involved.

Turnkey Business Websites
If you're unaware of what a turnkey business website is, its something that allows you to set up a website with a click of a button and be ready to sell. All of the content is loaded, the sales methods are pre-determined, and all you have to do is generate traffic to the site to profit.

The problem with this is that everyone loves these types of websites, and your niche will get overly saturated rather quickly if it isn't already. I've had a few turnkey sites in the past, and when I think back to them, I always laugh because it was the easiest way to get something up and running but never really panned out for me.

Custom Designed Websites
You never need a custom-designed website if you're starting. Sure, your idea could be amazing, but that doesn't mean you could be spending $10,000+ on a website design where the business might not pan out. Think of it this way; you can spend $200-$500 for a domain, logo design, premium WordPress theme, and one year of hosting and spend some of your 10k budget on advertising to bring in paying customers. If the project doesn't pan out, at least you didn't spend 10k on something that was never going to be profitable!

Being Overly Confident
One of the biggest business killers is when someone is overly confident they're going to do something or hit specific goals they set for themselves. I understand confidence is key to a successful business, but if you think there isn't a website out there that can overthrow you, you're in for a rude awakening.

You need to stay humble and keep grinding to boost your rankings within the SERPs and to keep customers coming back in.

Thinking Your Website is Finished
Many old school businesses fail at this because they will stick to the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset when it comes to their design. One thing the majority of programmers, designers, and digital marketers know is that you need always to evolve your sites content, structure, and design if you want to stay relevant. You can never think of your website as a finished product because that is when your competitors will start to overthrow your authority and take in more customers than you.

Final thoughts,
Running a digital empire isn't the easiest thing to do in the world, and if you have one of these four things above happening with your network, you'll likely fail or not profit as much as you should. Think of something fresh, save some money on your design, and stay humble, so you're always grinding and making money
