    If you change your URL, such as your website domain URL or a URL to a page or post on your site, that will be seen as a new URL by Google. So any backlinks and rank that you've built to it via backlinks that you've built on it, will no longer be able to pass any juice to it. Also that old URL will eventually not show in Google index any more.

    The thing to do is set up a permanent 301 redirect. This will tell Google that the URL has changed and moved to a new location instead. So any link juice you built up on the old URL, will be passed to the new URL. You can use your htaccess to create 301 redirect.

    All you need to do is add this rule into your .htaccess file.
    Redirect 301 /old-page.html http://www.mydomain.com/new-page.html

    Searching Google for "301 redirect htaccess" will give you many more tips about it but that is all you basically need to do.

When you move to a new home, what do you think will happen to all the mails and deliveries that are for you? It will be delivered to the old address unless you have notified each and everyone that you have moved to a new home.
