Is Google Chrome offline reading feature impressive to you?

Google upgraded its Chrome browser to have the feature of reading or accessing an already visited website without internet connection. By so doing, one don't need to have internet connection to access the site that he already visited before with internet access. But the downside is that you can't access any new websites that you haven't visited before.

In your opinion, is this upgrade a hit or miss from Google?

I am not sure how useful I will find it. In many ways I wish Google would put its efforts into making Google Docs better. It just means even more time spent on the net. I suppose you can't lose a site you were on?

stbrians
You do not lose the site but at times it is hard to read and have activity in it. So the docs must be improved. I hope we have a way of telling them.

I believe there is a way to give feedback, but my impression is they are not listening as I am still hoping for the same changes people were asking a year or so ago. The whole point of most sites I use is they are interactive so I am still not convinced this change is useful.

If only.....! If only people were listening and respinding? The world will be a great place

I agree with you. Google docs should really be made better by Google. There were times that I have problems while using it and trying to access it when the internet is not cooperating.

jaybee19
True. Google Docs are far behind its competitors and that's why I don't use it often and only when I'm at school and on a rush and must go to an internet shop where there's no Microsoft Word. Upgrading some things on their browser is fine but I'm on the same boat with you, they should focus more on their underrated apps/services especially that Google+ is already scheduled for shutdown in August next year,

I am not using Google Docs and I am ignorant of it. But based on the comments in this discussion is that Google Docs is a good feature although it needs improvement. Maybe I will check on Google Docs later to see exactly what benefit I can get from it. One thing that is good with Google is that it is always doing innovations for the convenience of using its features.

Seriously, I'm also one of the advocates who are agitating that Google should put more of their efforts in making Google Docs better and well improved because it seems to serve a far more better need than this new feature of offline reading mode.

I have a phone that uses android go and if you are infuriated about the docs on other devices then you would be mad if you tried using the one on this phone.

A welcome upgrade. It is a score in the right direction. Kudos Google Chrome for this great innovation. I think more is expected from you.

Yea I think so too, it will really help people that enjoy using Chrome.

This new feature might seem new but we've had something like it before. I used a browser called K-meleon last year. This browser would allow you to save a "session" so if you wanted to read something you already read, you'd only have to load the session that was saved.

Anyway I do agree that this new chrome feature is great. I wonder though how much disk space would be used to store all that data offline.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

stbrians
In steemit, once you write something, even without saving it will be autosaved and you will get it even after a certain period

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
Nice feature. Reminds me of when I am typing something on word document and I can recover it as an autosaved document when the laptop shuts down before I have saved. Now when the feature is on a browser it is great.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'm glad to know you also appreciate the feature somehow like I do. And yes, you're right for others to expect more than of it. But the feature itself is fine with me. Though I'm not saying it is enough for me to be impressed. There are a lot more interesting in the Google Chrome we can be impressed of other than that feature.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, Google Chrome is the best browser for me, tho I don't like their options of saved passwords, because you can see the password itself that if you unhide it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

There is no denying that fact that the feature upgrade is a welcome addition to all the updates Google have been doing so far but it's not really of much use to me because I'm not sure if any freelance writer would not have internet data subscription always. So, what am I doing with an offline reading feature when I have data and internet access?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think there was a browser that had this feature or capability in the past. But they couldn't maintain it in newer versions. It might've been Internet Explorer, not sure.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I didn’t even realize that this was something that was already incorporated into prior browsers! I guess I’d never utilized it before at all using other software. It is definitely a handy function to have, though.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
In my opinion, I believe that it's probably because the feature ain't worth it that led to it being scrapped by the said browser that you are referring to. Don't be surprised if the same thing happens to it with Google Chrome. Seriously, it doesn't hold much relevance in my opinion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

For people with a slow internet connection or those who live in places with frequent power outages this feature could be quite valuable. You just visit the webpage that interests you and should your machine go off abruptly, when you launch your browser afterwards you can still get back to whatever it is you were reading without having to get back on the net.

I think this new feature of offline reading is a very welcome addition to the existing service of the google chrome browser. I have not used this feature yet but I am sure it will be very useful to most of the users of Google Chrome. However, I think many of the Google Chrome users may not still be aware of this feature and Google should spread more awareness amongst the google chrome users about this special and very useful feature.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
Not sure many of its users want to take their site reading offline. Not unless it's a matter of utmost importance regarding a project or something.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

We are actually becoming aware of it. Great thanks for this article. It is quite informative. I hope Google does not lose out on this new feature.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it's definitely something that's handy. Sometimes I'm out and about and need to look something up I've previously used, but don't have a wifi connection and prefer not to use my 4G data. In situations like that, this would be super useful for me.

I think Google are very progressive and move with the times well.

Honestly I have never tried to use google for offline viewing since most of the time I am using it online but I am open for such possibility in using it because I want to give it a try so that I will experience how good it is. Besides this idea is new to me and I want to find out if it is worth it or not.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well technically this 'offline' feature was already a feature on most browsers. If you view web pages the content is stored on your system via caches. So technically it is not a new feature but I am assuming they have upgraded the technology of this feature? I am not quite sure to be honest...

However, most places I frequent has wifi so I do not need to look at cached versions of websites. I think this feature may come in handy for those that have limited internet access. Perhaps they can view these pages whenever they meet their bandwidth quotas or if they can not connect to the internet via a bad connection they can see offline versions of the content.

I am patiently waiting for the day that internet is free to use for everyone. I hate paying for internet, I feel like it should be free.. but I am optimistic that maybe at some point it will be? LOL.

While others are not satisfied. I am here as a person that was helped by the offline reading feature of Google Chrome. I am in a country where internet access is very limited, unless you have your pocket wifi with you or an unlimited internet connection from your network provider. So, whenever I need something that I forgot to copy when I was viewing it, I go back to the browser and there it is.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
So why is access to the net so scarce in your country @theresajane if you don't mind me asking?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it is definitely impressive. I want to save on my data. And I don't want to spend time working on money and waste it on some websites fancy feature. So on that note such type of the offline reading is definitely impressive in many ways. So one needs to be understanding of the fact that many of us are spending on data. And browser allowing such feature can save our money.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I agree. It helps us to save data and prevents ads to consume our data. This feature is a great idea of google to help us have an access to our pages even offline.

I used to use the Opera Mini on the android. And then Google chrome itself have started the bandwidth handler too. Some of the time other browser offer similar feature. I personally don't find much value out of the firefox based data saving though because it is not that fast to be honest.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jayjaydimson
Well, yes it is impressive for me because not all the people have internet access, so if they have it offline they can still use it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This feature of Google chrome is not really new since other browser already have this feature in a different way. Though it's a great addition and can be useful in some ways, however it's not that impressive for me. I do hope they can improve it on a more higher level. Nonetheless, it's a good addition for them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I think you can access it only to the point of your last access only. So it's quite limited and in my opinion Google could have done much better.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
They should have done better honestly. When I am able to only access one page of the whole web page, it means that I will definitely have need for data when I want to go further in the search as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I think this is a good thing to save data usage. It is also a way to prevent ads on keep popping out in the screen causing such disturbances while reading. Also, you can go back to your past pages without having to use internet which is good. You don't also have to wait again for the same page to load. It is convenient for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think it's great from a data saving perspective too. I don't know about everyone else's countries, but here free wifi isn't out and about everywhere. Some cafes might have it, but many don't. I don't like burning through all my data quickly, so this kind of feature is very welcome to me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It is pretty nice as long as you are able to have access to such sites. There are times that one may be in a place that they internet network is not that strong, believe me, you will likely appreciate this offline reading features when in such circumstances.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
If you're really want to know from us whether it is impressive or not, for me the feature is not totally impressive. But it somehow helpful especially in times that you need to go back to that site to reread something there and you don't have internet connection that time. So basically, it is useful in some ways and in times of need. It's okay for me if they will stay that feature and in fact I'm hoping for them not to remove it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I already relied on other browsers like opera mini and in my opinion I think that they were just trying to play catch up as they were waay behind in that aspect.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Corzhens
If I am not mistaken I think the Internet Explorer of Microsoft had that feature before that you can access the version of the site when you last accessed it if you don’t have an internet connection. That is a better way than not seeing the website at all. Unfortunately our desktop is running on Windows XP which is not supported by Chrome for the updates so I guess we cannot avail of that feature.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

luv2xacosta
Nah I don't find it very impressive. I can't view other websites. Aside from that I don't it is necessary to read offline news in google chrome because you're not even sure if it is fake news or not. I don't usually read their offline news because I just find boring. Some of it are not even relevant.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jayjaydimson
That's a good thing for those who don't have an internet connection at their place.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Adrian120501
Yeah it's impressive because we know that not all of us has a stable connection so it really help's. And also it's a good thing for all of us even if you have a stable connection. Because we can access site's that we have been visited recently even if we're offline. So I think that upgrade is a hit to google so nice.

I was not aware about this feature on chrome. I think this is a fantastic idea. You can save websites that you want to read and access them later even though you don’t have the internet or you live in a country where they are regular power blackouts.I think that Google Docs is a fantastic feature of Google. I like the fact that I can work on a document without having to save it and I can access it from any other device, even my phone at any time. I think there should come up with an offline version that saves to your Google Drive any time you are online.

I have not tried using that google chrome offline reading feature.
I'll search it later but I am happy with tge services of google chrome because I can't imagine how are we going to do our everyday tasks that needs google when it disappear.

Google Chrome offline feature is definitely useful in places with little to no data connection. It's quite useful during emergencies when you need to re-check a site for information and you don't have access to the internet. It saves you the hassle of saving a lot of screenshots that will probably get buried in your gallery and be deleted accidentally. If you're wondering why I mentioned screenshots is because that's what I used to do before whenever I need info on a site I visited but I know I wouldn't have data for the day. So to answer your question, in my personal opinion, this is definitely a hit for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well I wouldn't say I'm impressed by it, but it's certainly useful and might come in handy. In case you gotta use it when your internet is off or something. I remember using it quite a few times.
It's a good thing that they implemented such a thing, it actually can save you from time to time. Depending on the situation obviously.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well for me it has its uses. I really like searching in the net and read a lot. Sometimes I want to recall what I have read which I can use at any given situation. That's the time I use this feature. It's like my diary and it's ready to be read anytime I want even outside our house when wifi is not available. Using this feature is kind of handy for me.

The google chrome is the best browser of all time because of its fastest speed of browsing. You can make the google chrome working in the offline mode. For this, you just need to download the required files and use it later. You can check the Router Login which will help you to know more about the setup procedure.

Is google chrome offline reading feature impressive to you: Google nowadays is indeed important. When you're offline you can only read the page or site which you have open or save. You can't open or connect to the another page or site when your offline. Thus, you still need an internet connection so you won't stock on the old ones.

I am really very very happy to see this but the set up is not an easy way. So I want some required files and use it later. You can check the d-link customer service which will help you to know more about the setup
