Everyone wants to trust the websites they're on, but it doesn't usually happen, and that's because the websites they're landing on just don't know what they're doing. If you land on a website that is difficult to navigate, looks like it was designed in 1997, has broken pages, and loads very slow will you think "Hey, this is a great website and I trust it!". The answer to that is Probably Not, because they aren't doing the most basic things to keep people on their website and giving them the best experience possible.
Customer service is a big this as well, but your design and how it works is the first step in customer service that people don't think about because everyone wants to land on a website that works well. If you're doing what you can to make your website as user-friendly for the person viewing it, you'd be amazed at how much your profits go up from just you wanting to give them the best experience possible.
Other than customer service and making sure your website is user-friendly, you need to think about the following 4 points to understand the link between trust and profits when it comes to your visitors.
You have to give people a reason to trust you
No matter how many people land on your website and browse your pages, you won't be trusted unless you give them a reason to, and that's not as difficult as it sounds. You can do something nice within your community and publish it as a blog post on your own website for everyone to read. People will see you're donating your time or money to help out kids, build up your community, feed the hungry, or various other things and they will see you as a genuine company that helps others. You will now be trusted more without the visitors even having to talk with you, which will boost your sales.
Trust doesn't come overnight
If you think you can do one little thing and be trusted right away, you're wrong, and that's because trust comes over a long period of time. Sometimes it takes years to be trusted by the community simply because of how large your market actually is. Smaller niches and industries are easier to become trusted in, but larger ones take a lot more work, so understand your market before you start to complain that you're not a trusted website after posting one blog article about how great you are lol.
People will look up any reviews about you
If you don't have reviews from strangers on 3rd party website, you likely aren't going to be trusted right away, and that's because people want to make sure someone else made a purchase from you before they open their own wallets. Looking up reviews about a product or service is common practice today due to all these bigger platforms posting customer reviews publically for everyone to see, so why would someone trust you if no one else is talking about your products or website? Go get some positive reviews 
Why you need to be trusted by strangers in order to make money
If you're trusted by complete strangers they will tell their friends and family about you, and that's a form of marketing you can't buy! Recommendations from complete strangers will always boost your profits quicker than any sort of marketing you could do by yourself or hire someone to do, and this is because the new customer is getting told by a friend that you're great and they should purchase. They're getting a trusted review from someone they trust, which means you're essentially getting the thumbs up and now you're more profitable.
What you'll want to try and do is turn those verbal thumbs ups into contextual reviews and get them online wherever you can in order to boost your traffic and sales from people looking up reviews about you
In conclusion
If your website isn't trusted, you won't be around for long, so you need to focus on your trust value just as much as you are thinking about SEO or branding. You could have the fastest website and the sleekest design, but if there are more negative public reviews out there for people to read than there are positive ones, you're going to be dead in the water Think about your trust within the community and try to fix it if it's worth your time, or start over and don't do the bad things that got you negative reviews in the first place!

Yeah, it definitely takes time to establish yourself as a trusted brand. With websites, it takes a lot longer to build trust compared to when you're talking to someone face to face. This is because the visitor to your website can't put a picture behind the texts or emails their getting, so they don't really know how to build a relationship with you. This is why it takes much longer with websites than if you have a brick and mortar style business, people just don't see your face and don't know how to read your emotions when typing. To fix this, I'll get an idea of who the person is based on their responses, and if I think it's ok to do I'll add in some smileys :D so they start to let their guard down and understand I'm an actual person who is just trying to help them out :) <--- See, did it again lol.
Bad reviews come about in all shapes and forms, usually from angry buyers who don't understand what they're purchasing in the first place, but it could also be because you shipped a product to them that was in operating condition and something happened in shipment to break it, now you're the bad guy who is getting blasted online. People don't think before they type, and that's why a lot of negative reviews for bad products being received tend to get deleted or at least edited to be seen as positive. Another way people review something that annoys me is when they buy a gift for someone else and that person doesn't like it. A good example of this is I saw a person give a dog bed 1 star because their dog didn't like the bed. Now, I own one of these dog beds and I can say they're amazing, but if my dog didn't like it I wouldn't rate it 1 star. I would simply send it back and say my dog hated it, please give me my money back because I'm under a 60-day warranty for something exactly like the situation I'm in.
I'm convinced that some people just want to complain about everything happening in their life, so try not to give them a reason to target you lol :D

You have to work your butts off before someone can trust you especially when it's something that has to do with investing one's money on like a website or online business.
