It doesn't matter who you're talking to, a good relationship is built on trust. People need to trust you before they send you leads, purchase from you, contact you for a partnership, etc. Businesses succeed due to just building trust among everyone they come in contact with, so your main goal should always be to build trust with everyone you come across.
Building trust among people won't just increase your sales due to potential customers purchasing without giving it a second thought. You can build trust between you and your employees who will work longer hours and be more willing to come in on their days off if they trust and look up to you, which will prove that if you go the extra mile they will to. You might also save on advertising if you're building trust between you and a website you want to advertise on at a later date. You might be building your business relationship with them, and once you're ready to advertise, they will come back with a much lower number than before because they trust you more than a random person contacting them for a spot.
You need to build trust whenever you can and below are my top 5 ways I build trust when talking with someone new or even an old business friend.
Always be honest
If you're holding back in a conversation, people will feel that you're withholding information and they will begin to not trust you. Trust is a two way street and needs to be nurtured over time. You won't gain trust from anyone if you're always holding a trump card up your sleeve when it comes to a business relationship. I'm not telling you to put all your cards on the table and show people exactly what you're doing, I'm saying you should let your potential business owners and clients know exactly what they want questions to, without giving away all your little secrets.
You can't have people on the defensive, and if you're withholding information, they will feel like they need to be. Give them a decent amount of information about yourself, and your company, and you will see that you are going to build a good amount of trust over time.
Communicate with them often
You can't leave people in the dark when you're running a business, so you need to be doing various things in order to communicate with them as often as possible. I'm not saying to spam them with emails multiple times a week, I'm saying that you should probably be posting content to your blog in order to communicate with everyone. They will see you as trying to reach out with quality content and you will be talking to the masses without having to email them all one by one.
You will need to open up the curtains and let people into what you're doing. People will see you're letting them in and they will begin to trust you more and more every time them come back for another read 
Build the right alliances
Talk with people who are within your industry but don't contact the ones who do exactly what you do. If you stick within your industry, you will build credible relationships that every visitor to your website will know. If you're talking to potential allies, you will need to be honest with them and that means they need to know your intentions. You can let them know you think they would be one of the best allies for you, and you think both parties could benefit immensely.
Having great businesses partner with you will show the world that you can be trusted. This goes a long way, just like any of the other methods in this list, and should be worked on from day 1.
Mend any fences you can
We all know that businesses run into problems, sometimes with other businesses and customers, and these conflicts need to be mended. If they are not mended, they could be a cancer that could inevitably take down your company in the long run. This isn't a difficult thing to do, you just need to talk with all your customers that had a bad experience and let them know you're willing to do whatever it takes to make them happy. The same thing goes with bad business relationships, you need to contact all of them to build a better relationship and mend any fences that may have been broken.
If you can mend all the fences, you'll be much better off when it comes to becoming successful
Have amazing customer service
When you're selling something, you need to pair it up with stellar customer service so you can keep everyone trusting you. If you're not there to fix any problems, you're killing your long term business relationships from dedicated customers. You don't want people to think that you've got their money and now you don't care what happens, they need to know you're there for them and want to help in any situation that arises.
A good customer service system says a lot more than a good product or service. You could pair an ok service or product with stellar support and people will praise you for it. If you pair a great product with bad support, you will see more people talking down about your company because you're not building any sort of trust with them. This speaks a lot when it comes to trust because people want to talk with you in order to put themselves at ease. They want to be help by the hand and led through the entire process, even after they make a purchase, so you need to be there to answer any questions that come up pre and post sale.
In Conclusion
You need to build trust over time, it won't be something that you can just buy or get as soon as you put a great looking logo on your website. You need to build trust over time through great relationships and amazing customer support, which takes time and needs to be managed all the time. Just telling someone to trust you isn't going to be the same as if you actually build trust with them. It doesn't matter if you're working with business partners or talking with a potential client, you need to answer everything they ask and be professional and friendly at the same time in order to build trust.
