Hi Tommy, the term black-hat refers to techniques that are frowned upon, spammy, or are against search engine guidelines. When a particular technique becomes obsolete, it doesn't make it black-hat, just not as effective as it once was.

I cannot think of an SEO method now that may be obsolete tomorrow. Okay, let’s take keywords for an example. If tagging or keywords in the web page will not be used by search engines anymore then I don’t think it will be a blackhat simply because it was being used before and part and parcel of the algorithm. And how would the search engine say to website owners not to use keywords anymore when it is actually working?
