    Quite simply SEO should be done on a website because it improves your websites ranking in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Basically meaning where you show in the page when people search for something in a search engine. By getting better SERP rankings your site will get more traffic and thusly you will earn more money. So it's all about the money at the end of the day. That's the only reason people really do SEO on a website so they can rank it higher and earn some money with it. Unless they're doing it for fun.     When a site has a good ranking in the search list you will see that the user that issued the search has a tendency to click on your link. That is the main gist why SEO work is needed on a site to push the ranking upwards and for the link to appear not only on page 1 but on a higher position in page 1. If there are hundreds of users that do a search in an hour then you can imagine the amount of traffic that your site will get from the users who are searching.

    I think what SEO stands for basically gives you the biggest reason to perform SEO on a website and that is that you're optimizing your website to be found in search engines which really is exactly what you want for any website you own.

    You really can't beat organic traffic.
