    Some SEO companies are just sharks!

    It is so upsetting to see how some people treat those that are unsuspecting.

    I have had a number of people contacting me in the last few months for help with their websites. Some are people I know already and others are people that have contacted me through my blogs.

    Anyway they ask me how can they make their website work for them? They have an SEO company right but they don't get many sales or traffic.

    Now I am not an expert but I do run all my own websites so I know about on page SEO and how to rank my content and market it. When I see what people are being billed and what they are receiving it is in my opinion nothing short of theft!

    If you are charging a monthly fee for SEO for a website that has hardly any competition at all then it should be ranking well. But when I check the keywords the website is not ranked at all. I am talking about seriously low competition keywords.

    That is one of the reasons I love this market place. Not only can newbies come to the community discussions to ask questions, get guidance and learn by reading the posts but they can browse the market place and find some really good and honest sellers with great recommendations.

    I get so upset when I see how some people are paying a fortune and for the life of me I literally cannot find any evidence of SEO work done!

    You said it sister! And I think you speak for a large majority of people as well. This was a recent discussion on here by Andre (which we've had before) where people call themselves "SEO Experts" or "SEO gurus" to give the impression they know a lot about SEO and know how to rank sites easily. But when you peel back the curtain and look behind the scenes, it's some little guy sat on a stool pushing a bunch of buttons on some software! Or, he/she is simply outsourcing that SEO to some other SEO company or freelancer for a fraction of the price that they are charging. This to me is unethical. I do understand, that's business. But charging people 8x what you're paying for it is businesses extortion and that shouldn't be allowed. Unfortunately, it's not a regulated industry and any Tom, Dick or Harry can do it!

    But for those that are rookies and do need SEO tips and advice, we do have the SEOClerks Community Discussions here which have some truly amazing, inspiring, educated and experienced SEO's on here which can freely give you advice and tips on all things SEO. For that reason, I encourage all newbie and rookie webmasters, bloggers and affiliate marketers to come on here first before purchasing some x SEO package from some x SEO company. Ask about it here first, get feedback on it and the prices. You might just discover that you can get the same SEO services for a fraction of the price they are charging you by a professional freelancer who will do the same SEO!

    All we can do though is tell people about this. They have to come and learn for themselves. Some SEO companies are just sharks!

    Yes Mike, I have been referring people here and it is so nice to recommend the great sellers here after they have been shafted by some sharks.

    Seriously I am busy assisting someone now and there is not one backlink built in a year! And they are apparently doing SEO on her website. No rankings, nothing. They won't even give her Analytics reports... or it is coming right?

    Unfortunately there are indeed several SEO companies, or so called SEO experts who do not offer a proper service at all. There are sadly many clients who are being ripped off by these service providers, who are not experts and they are basically simply stealing money from people who do not understand what it really involves to have this kind of service.

    I hate these people and companies that offer crappy SEO services! They give the whole industry a bad name! Among all online marketing type services SEO has to be the most controversial one! So many companies got burned is not even funny, I even had customers that came to the agency for re-design purposes and totally freaked out when they found out I was doing basic SEO on their website as part of the contract.

    They thought we will be charging them huge amounts for "nothing", apparently they paid a lot of money to "professional" SEO agencies and they never saw an increase in their organic traffic.

    Yes exactly Cristian... that is what is happening with the person I am helping now... and now the company she was dealing with is trying to hold her to a contract when they are the ones that have breached the contract.

    Shocking but I am sure I can help her resolve this issue.

    One thing that troubles my mind with SEO work is that there is no definite period for the work to take effect. In some discussions, it has been mentioned that the effect can be felt tomorrow or next week or next month or even longer. With that kind of reasoning, there seems to be no guarantee for SEO work to take effect in terms of traffic. That’s why it is a big gamble to hire an SEO specialist that asks a high fee.
