How to get the map on my profile to show my correct location?

One of my recent current clients asked me why I didn't have the map enabled on my profile. I did actually used to have that enabled but found that it didn't show my correct location and was just all blue like it's showing water and not land. I do live right near the coast near the beach but not out on the actual sea.

I've entered my correct address, first line, town, city, country and post code and I'm address verified. But the map doesn't show my correct location properly.

At the moment it is just showing a blueness as though it's just water and not land. And when I click the minus button to zoom out nothing happens. And when I click Satellite view it shows the "Sorry, we have no imagery" message. Which is strange.

Does or has anyone else experienced this issue with the map on their profile?

Mike, do you live in the ocean?

You would most likely have to contact a staff member or admin to see what's going on with this. I don't think it's anything you're doing wrong because all we have access to is the feature to add our address and then hope it doesn't show up as we live in the middle of the ocean lol

I live in Selsey basically right at the end of this point and if sea levels keep rising it might not even be above water in the next 10-20 years and then I'll be swimming! LOL In fact sometimes when Pagham harbour gets flooded we get cut off from Pagham to Wittering. Some geography for you there lol

That's sort of what should show on the map on my profile too but doesn't. In fact I don't think it's ever shown right for me. I believe it is because of the way the system is configured to collect the data of the city, state to use and show that Google maps needs. Something to do with the State field perhaps not registering my County (We call States, Counties in England). Although there is a form for Zip/Postal Code and that's my postcode as it should be. (Again you call them Zip codes and are usually 5 digits. Where as our Postal codes are letter and number based with a space. I think this may be something to do with it.

Yeah and yeah exactly. I wouldn't mind living on the ocean! I've often wish I owned a yacht I could sail around the world in. Or at least just a couple miles from land so I could row in to do a bit of shopping when I needed. ;)

Nothing too flashy. Just something simple and basic like.

LOL Mike well the map is also showing my incorrect location and I have struggled to get it correct so I just left it. It shows me as being in Johannesburg which is in the same country, sure but nowhere close to where I live.

Oh well, maybe when you get yours right you can tell me how to sort mine out too

Ah right okay yeah, that kinda makes sense. This is why I disabled it in the first place! I'd rather it not show at all than show the wrong location or just show water like that as it might look like to people I've not put my correct and real location or something. Even though I'm address verified.

This is all because of one client who's asked me why the map isn't showing on my profile. Nobody else have ever asked me that and he somehow feels skeptical that I don't have my map enabled as though I'm not who I say I am or something.

I've told him I'm a Level 3X seller, that I've been here since day one. That I'm on the CD mod team. That I've provided this service many times over to many happy clients. He's said he's had a lot of bad sellers try to con him out of money and that's why he gets worried easy but I don't know how true that is and people say these things sometimes I guess.

But I really don't think whether the map on my profile is correctly working or not is going to make much difference. I'm delivering his order today and hopefully after he sees that it might restore his confidence in SEOClerks and realize there are some good sellers on here.

Hopefully! Fingers crossed and all of that!

I think the issue is the IP address. I believe Google Maps works with IP addresses, and then it utilizes Latitude and Longitude coordinates based off your IP address, and then tries to find where you are on the map.

You can check your IP address coordinates with IP Location Finder:

Apparently, from Google, you are already swimming. Perhaps Google Maps basically went years into the future, and Selsey has already sank into the ocean? I mean that can only be the reason why Google Maps places you in the Atlantic Ocean right? LOL.

Yep, same issue as above, and basically it can not be fixed unless Google Maps either updates or fixes it, to where the coordinates are actually correct.

I think even mine is wrong, it says I'm in Lewes, which is incorrect however that city is really close.

Edit: Also, the Map on my profile still shows me living in Virginia which isn't correct since I moved. I think this is based off your signup IP address.

Yeah location is based on your IP address. It's not showing the accurate location because the database that Google map is using to show your location address does not contain accurate information. The reason why it's not showing the exact location is because , ISP does not fill out this information for all customers. So everything depends on your ISP and this database from where google map is getting results.

Mine too is showing wrong location, and it's understandable because google map is using a database which does not contains accurate information.

The only way to set the exact location is to set it manually from google map.

I removed the location thingy from my profile. I see no point for it really, you can't interact with the map and doesn't show my real address. I guess it's just a way to make sellers more trustworthy in the eyes of potential customers.

Also, what if I change my IP? Will my map location change, I wonder how frequently does SC take note from which IPs you log in from.
Even if the location worked in a accurate way, what is the client supposed to do with that information?
