Reciprocal Links for directory link submissions?

Reciprocal Links for directory link submissions?

I have decided to work on my link building and now I have some questions.

I purchased an awesome list of 3000+ best free SEO backlinks sites a while back and I have decided to now start working through this list.

The problem I have encountered now is that a lot of these sites ask for reciprocal links and this makes me a little edgy and I wonder how do I go about this? Can anyone please explain to me the best way to do this?

I am not 100% comfortable adding links all over my websites. I don't know where to put them. Yes probably a stupid question, I know, but I am new to link building and in the past when I have hit this problem I have just left that website.

You have to be very carefully with this directories. To my knowledge, Google doesn't like them very much because they usually, attract shady links. If I remember well they were considered farm links and their input in ranking and creating authority is minimum.

Instead of directory link submission you might want to find 50 powerfull blogs in your niche and start developing your authority through them. Start commenting daily to their articles, be on topic, develop a friendship with the blog owner and you will benefit much more than from the directories.

Links from directories are static, don't bring any value to you and if the directory is listed as spammy it might hurt your rankings. From blog commenting, you can get authority on some keywords(if the owner allows you to post links with anchors) and traffic.

As long as you keep it professional and on topic your links are, usually approved and visible within the comment.

Ok very interesting. What about directories that require a payment? Surely these won't be full of spammy links since nobody that spams will be interested in paying right?

That might work but considering the amount of "link juice" you are getting from them is insignificant i wouldn't consider them in my SEO Strategy.

But hey, this is just me. You can apply every method you seem fit for your website.

Hello Lynne.
Yeah i know it can be confusing to add so many links on your blog. I also would love to hear other's suggestions, but what i would do in this case is:
If link is really high authority and worth exchanging, like there is many, i would probably create post or page called "recommended links" (or something like that) then keep adding these links to the same post. Maybe even page which should not me linked from menu or anywhere else. Also don't forget to set links rel=nofollow (if they not insisting on dofollow links).

This is my idea on first thought which could solve your problem...

Kind regards,
ANWEBSERVICES

Thanks Abid, yes that is what I was thinking of, creating a page just for all these links but I was wondering where to put it LOL.

Would I then mark that page to not be indexed by Google or what? I mean if I have a page with just links on it surely Google will not like that?

I guess it would be fine to set your "meta=noindex" for that page and not link it from your menu or articles. Reciprocal link checkers wouldn't probably refuse your reciprocal link application in that case.

Do you think it would be damaging if I left that page to be indexed by Google?

Never do reciprocal with a link directory! Avoid submitting to directories that ask for a reciprocal link. Unless (and only if) the directory you're submitting to is a very high traffic, very high authority and very related directory to your site. Let me break that down.

Very high traffic

Some directories don't get any real human traffic or even many search engine spiders visiting them. So your listing on that directory site might not bring you in any real traffic from those people who find your listing. Let alone any spiders visiting it from search engines. If your directory submission listing that's created for you when your submission is approved, is one that is likely to get a lot of hits and traffic, such as on high traffic directories, then it might be worth submitting to it for that reason. But it may require a reciprocal link for that listing. If your listing that you create (despite the reciprocal link you must have on your site). However if your listing was likely to send you a lot of traffic from that listing, then it would be worth having the reciprocal link.

Very high authority

Some directories are very high authority domains, have a lot of age behind them, have big DA/PA/CF/TF etc etc. These types of directories usually receive a lot of traffic as well. But you can get high authority directories that don't receive much traffic too. They rank for lots of different things in Google, but perhaps still don't receive as much traffic as some lower authority directories do. You can't see how much traffic a directory gets, but you can know if it's a high authority directory or not. You'll have to use domain analysis tools like Moz.com or some other DA/PA/CF/TF checker tools online etc. This is where it gets a bit tedious and where a lot of people give up.

But you have to be picky today. But if the directory is a very high authority site and having a link from it could help your site by being a valuable listing as well as from an SEO perspective to increase your rankings then it may help. But you really don't want tons of links on your websites homepage to tons of directories, that wouldn't be good for your own SEO having tons of OBLS's to directories and your sites visitors and users probably wont like it much and may even click out on them which isn't good for you either.

Very related

Some directories are made for certain types of sites. Niche directories are better than general directories because having backlinks from sites that are related to you are much more valuable to have. Some of these are free and paid, some will require a reciprocal and some wont. For those that do, even though it would be a good link to have because it would be a valuable resource on that directory, and the directory is a directory about garden vegetables and your site is about carrots or something then you'd submit to the carrots category where it would show if it's approved. Basically, links from sites related to yours can be very valuable to have. So you really should start with these first.

As said, some are free some are paid. Some require a reciprocal and some don't. For now, what you should try to do is find those directories that don't require payment and don't require a reciprocal link. Find those that are high traffic, high authority and related to your niche. Then only submit to the ones that don't require a reciprocal or payment. The ones that are high traffic and high authority. And those that are in your niche as well or as closely related to it as possible.

Sure they are harder to find, at first. Especially niche directories. But unless you want to have a ton of outbound external directory links on the footer of your site, or want to pay a lot of money to buy them without having to place a reciprocal link. It's the only way about it.

How to find high authority niche directories that don't require reciprocal links?

Search for words within your niche along with words like "directory".

Example: To find directories about bird watching search "bird watching directory", "bird watching submit link", "bird watching listing" etc etc.

Then use the above rules of thumb to know whether it's worth submitting to it or not. Reciprocal Links for directory link submissions?

Hope this helps more than it asks more questions!

Mike.

Thanks Mike, yes this explanation is very helpful..... so now I am assuming all the sites in the list I purchased from you are high authority websites right? There are a good few where I need to do a reciprocal link.

I have started with that list and added myself blog to a few directories but skipped all the ones that require a reciprocal link until I can be sure. \

Oh and I asked another question in another thread about the paid links Reciprocal Links for directory link submissions?
