    I think it does but you need to be really careful not to post backlinks on a low quality directories

    Posting your backlinks needs a thorough research on the target site because not any site can give you a good backlink and posting on a low quality site may even affect negatively the ranking of your site in the search engines. That is the main reason why you should not be hasty in building your backlinks whether it is on bookmarking sites or on just any other site. Be discerning and choosy with the target site.

    Directory link building still works, however, in order to benefit from directory link building, you need to submit your links to the directory that has high authority and is ranked higher than your website. Too many directory submission can be detrimental for your website. Excessive backlinking does not increase your PR. IN fact, it might even down rank your website.

    I didn’t know that link building in directory can be hazardous when done excessively. Is this the same as building too many links that can put your website in a fix? When it comes to high authority for the submission of the links, I guess you have to be discerning enough and know which website to patronize and which website to avoid otherwise your website can be penalized.

    That's true, excessive linking can be detrimental because it is considered spam. One backlink from a high ranking related website is better than two backlinks from lowly ranked unrelated websites. In order to get high rank, your website should contain a substantial amount of contents, if the directory has only links, it will be downgraded or never promoted to the higher rank. If you are building links on the directory that has a lowe rank, it will never benefit your website.
