    Fetch As Google is asking for Image Verification?

    So something that is new this week is that every time I have published new content and then gone into Google Search Console it is asking me to "click on all images with a" whatever in it.

    Now this has never happened until now, previously I just had to check a box to verify I am not a bot.

    Is this happening to you too? If it is just me then I am a little worried, what have I done wrong?

    I have not received any warnings on Google Search Console and I don't do anything black hat... any advice?

    Hi Lynne. It does that sometimes from time to time. It's still a part of the same reCAPTCHA. But instead of just clicking the box it will ask you to click on all the images that have a lion in them or a cat or trees or mountains or grass or watches or something like that. It's nothing to do with your Search Console or website being used. It's just that you are using it quite a lot so it's making you do that instead of just ticking the box.

    So you haven't done anything wrong and there's nothing to worry about. It's just the way that the reCAPTCHAs system works. If you delete all your cookies and change your IP address and delete your browsers cache and then try it, you'll probably find that all you need to do again is just tick the box and you're good to go. When you use that reCAPTCHA system too many times too soon, it will make it harder for you by making you identify pictures of things instead of just having to tick the box.

    Did you know? reCAPTCHA improves our knowledge of the physical world by creating CAPTCHAs out of text visible on Street View imagery. As people verify the text in these CAPTCHAs, this information is used to make Google Maps more precise and complete. Also reCAPTCHA digitizes books by turning words that cannot be read by computers into CAPTCHAs for people to solve. Word by word, a book is digitized and preserved online for people to find and read each time you answer one of the CAPTCHAs.

    So yeah, nothing to worry about! It's just normal. And each time you answer a CAPTCHA, you're making the world a little better. Well, Google Maps and Street View and digitized books anyway. Fetch As Google is asking for Image Verification?

    PS. There is no real need to keep logging into your Search Console and do Fetch as Google. That tool is only there to test how Google crawls or renders a URL on your site. You can use Fetch as Google to see whether Googlebot can access a page on your site, how it renders the page, and whether any page resources (such as images or scripts) are blocked to Googlebot or not. It doesn't mean that Google will crawl your new content.

    Provided you have an XML sitemap on your site and that's been submitted to Google Search Console, Google will crawl that new content pretty quick once you've pinged it using Pingomatic which then pings all the Google blog servers and that's done automatically for you as soon as you click the "Publish" button.

    Oh my gosh Mike, how do you know all these things LOL?

    Ok so I haven't really been going wild with adding new content and I have only used Google Search Console twice this week! Both times I had to do the image captcha's.

    Ok so as long as I am not in any sort of trouble that was my only concern, that somehow Google had flagged me as a naughty person and they were making me verify because of it. I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, but it is like slamming on the brakes when I'm not speeding when I see a traffic cop or a speed trap haha.

    Ok so now you have given me contradicting information... part of my checklist of things to do after I publish or update content is I ping it (I use pingoat.com) and I also ask Google to crawl my new content.

    I was recently told that pinging my content is just not necessary, but fetching as Google was...sounds like a good debate to me. I'm going to ask the community in a new thread.

    Hi Lynne. There is no need to use any 3rd party ping tool after you've published your content if you're using WordPress because a ping is sent to Pingomatic for you automatically and Pingomatic automatically pings all the other Google blog servers. By doing so all you're doing is slowing down the process. You can think of it like opening a support ticket on here for support. Then not getting an answer after about 3 hours or something and then opening another ticket to ask why there's no answer. All it's going to do is slow down you receiving an answer to your original question since the support may have to read and deal with that one before they answer your original one. Or after which then slows support service down for other tickets that are open. If you can imagine, there are many people pinging (which only tells Google there is new content to crawl/index and Google can still decide whether to or not) and each time Googlebot has to decide whether to crawl/index that content based on how much resources or how many free spiders it has. It only has so many spiders (servers) and if they're all being used, it will make a list of all the URLs that it needs to crawl/index and mark them off as they're done. But it doesn't guarantee that it will crawl/index that content. But it usually does and quite fast.

    One ping only is enough. You can think of it like this... Fetch As Google is asking for Image Verification?

    Oooohhhh ok so when you say Pingomatic that is not something that actually needs to be done.

    What about updating old content does Wordpress also send that to Pingomatic?

    Nope, it's already pre-added into it for you. Go into your WordPress Writing Settings page. And under "Update Services" you should see the Pingomatic RPC call link.

    If it's showing the http://rpc.pingomatic.com RPC call link there (which is included for you when you install WP) then no, you don't have to. However, some people do like to put other ping servers in that list. That's what it's for, Read that link I gave you on Update Services. It will explain all.     Yes! It happens to me a lot because I use Search Console on a daily basis and I have around 30 websites under my administration only from one account!
    So as you can figure I do a few "Fetch as Google" almost daily. So, usually, after I do a couple, Google starts asking for a verification image to make sure I'm not a bot or abusing the system.
