    Bounce bada bada bounce with it! Bounce Rate is how fast people leave your site! So if people are visiting your site from a link or a search engine listing and then instantly leave within around 5 seconds, thats going to create a high bounce rate. But if people are visiting and staying for around 5 minutes or more that is going to decrease your bounce rate. The longer people spend on your time, the more your bounce rate will go down. If you have a bounce rate of 95% then people are leaving your site fast and it shows that your site and its content or whatever is on it is not appealing and interesting to the visitor. If you have a lower bounce rate of around 70% it means that people are slightly interested in your site but there isn't enough there for them to remain and they loose interest and leave it. If you have a bounce rate of 50% or less it means people are finding your content fairly interesting and there's enough of it to keep them hanging around for a while. So your bounce rate is an indicator of how interesting and appealing your content is to your sites visitors and can be a very good way of knowing whether your website or its content needs updating and improving! There are some good services on here that you can use to decrease your bounce rate as well although a lot of it is website traffic which can be good at decreasing your bounce rate over time and is a method that many webmasters use to do so as well!     My question with bounce rate is the way to determine the exact time. For example I opened a site and from the home page I clicked on a secondary page. How does the internet know that I have left the home page? What if in going to the secondary page I just clicked it to open in another tab or another page which in effect I have 2 windows for that particular site – the home page and the secondary page. How does the bounce rate come into play when both pages are still open?

    The bounce rate is the rate users leave your website without clicking anything else since the arrived page.

    As lower the bounce rate is, as better your traffic is. It means your content and website is interesting enough for people to stick around.

    I understand bounce rate now. However, what I don’t know is how the website can determine that a visitor had left the site? For example, I entered a site and it took me 2 minutes to read the home page. If I didn’t like the contents then I leave after 2 minutes. How would the site know of my stay of 2 minutes?
