    Should I invest in an Oculus VR headset, or a generic unbranded one?

    Should I invest in an Oculus VR headset or not? This question has been bugging me for a while as I am really interested in buying a VR headset. However I do not intend to spend much. I was trying to do some research and there are actually several unbranded headsets on the market and they are available quite cheaply, even at some $30. However I am not sure if it is worthwhile, or if it is better to invest in one of the most well known brands such as Oculus Rift? Anyone has any experience with such a headset please? I would appreciate your feedback.

    Ah well it appears to early right now to know whether you can get the same experience using an unbranded VR headset over an Oculus VR headset or not. At the end of the day they both basically do the same thing, but in most cases than not, the unbranded manufacturers only copy the original in some way and the original is usually the best for those reasons. I know the Oculus VR headsets are quite expensive so getting one could set you back a bit but then think about it, you will have an Oculus VR headset as opposed to some unknown Chinese brand which has only really copied the technology anyway. Should I invest in an Oculus VR headset, or a generic unbranded one?

    Personally I'd like to get one as well as they do look cool. But I think this is still an emerging technology right now and hence why it's quite an expensive one as well. Like most emerging technologies, I prefer to let people guinea pig them for a while and wait for feedback from the masses about what they're like. Also later on, as the law of supply and demand dictates, the price will come down. Plus more manufacturers will step up and make their own VR headsets driving the price down even more.

    But hey, if you're a dedicated gamer and you love to keep up with new trends and be one of the first people to jump on them, and you think it would be something cool to do as well and you can afford it without breaking the bank, then go ahead and invest in one. I guess you could always buy a cheap one at first for $30 or something, see how you get on with it and then if you like it, invest in an Oculus rift.

    Some of the games available look pretty cool like EVE: Valkyrie. But I'm hoping that you'll be able to play BF1 and COD in VR mode as if so I will probably invest in a pair then just to see what all the crack is and do something new. It's quite futuristic after all. But I hope this sort of helps you in your decision making whatever you decide to do! Should I invest in an Oculus VR headset, or a generic unbranded one?

    yea i agree you really can get similar experiences with a an unbranded product that goes with any thing some thing similar will always come out, it will always show that the manufacturers have done something to copy an idea and the way things are set up that is the main reason why the original is and will be the best , it really does come down to a sense of budget too cause lets really face it these new systems and devices are always coming out priced at really ridiculous prices , so it really depends on the person

    Yes Mike, I get your point. I love gadgets and electronic stuff - the only drawback is that they cost money :/ one thing is for sure - despite the positive reviews and all the craze among gamers for the Oculus Rift, which is considered as THE VR headset of the moment, there is surely going to be a lot of changes over the next few years as the demand for VR headsets will increase and improvements are made too, as happens every time after all. So maybe I will just buy a cheap one, and wait a couple of years for an even better investment.

    I bought one of those 5 bucks cardboard VR type glasses. Just to see what the fuss is all about. Indeed pretty amazing having that on your mobile phone. I also tried the real deal, even more amazing.

    But I'm still waiting for that one product that will change everything. Like the iphone was for smartphones. I don't think VR is there yet, so I'm going to wait a while. I bet in a couple of years they'll come up with better and cheaper technologies

    i think you are on to some thing cristian , it is true with every new device that comes out no matter what developer or manufacturer is behind it, that device is soon to be followed by a generation of up grades depending on the success of the device , his best bet might be to wait and see if something more better really does come out , by then the decision to buy and what his options could be will most likely sort itself out in the long he wont even have to think the choice will already be made for him

    Yes reviews are just great and it is probably one of the main reasons why I am so unsure as to whether they can even be compared with each other. But there is such a big difference in the price!

    Also I agree that VR is still at the beginning. In the next few years there are surely going to be various improvements and advancements.

    i have used the vr personally and i belioev the oculus vr at the moment is the best of the best for what it is meant to do, i have not really tried any off brand devices yet but i do not intend too with the vr i know for a fact you have features opn it that you would not be able to get on any other device the vr has it's own exclusive which make it or well should i say put it in the top of its class now the only thing honestly i would say that probably would effect you decision is the price , it can be a bit much

    Yes I feel it is quite expensive to be honest. It does provide a unique experience, but considering that there are so many other cheaper possibilities I am inclined to opt for one of them. The main thing that is bothering me is whether they will be a kind that breaks down after a while, or be slow or something. There is no denying that sometimes you try to save money by opting for a cheaper product, and then after a while you end up buying a proper one, and so you could have spent more than you would have originally.
