You know, I am a little on the new side when it comes too blogging, so with that being said go easy on me. My question is what kind of traffic am i looking for when it comes down to running a successful blog, also any methods or tips i could use to possibly help improve blog activity. I want to know the best ways to combine your freelance with blogging and turn it into something profitable or a tool to assist money. Just a thought.

Are you talking about running a dedicated blog or adding a blog to your already existing site? What kind of blog will it be? There's the affiliate kind and there's the personal kind. People prefer personal blogs over affiliate blogs. So the secret to a successful blog is? To first create a personal blog and build up your readership without pumping them full of ads and affiliate links and then later on, gently start posting offers and deals and things on your blog and to your subscribers. But first, make sure to find out what it is they're really interested in, find out what problems most people in that niche have and provide the solutions to them. First providing tantalizing prospects of a solution and then hitting them with the actual solution later by way of your affiliate product/service.

Of course you could go all out from the start and just run an affiliate blog from the start. But you better be posting some real good reviews and things else people will see right through it from the start and it will be harder to gain peoples trust and pick up links. However personal blogs that blog about real life problems in one particular niche, whatever it may be, that aren't full of ads and don't try and ram offers and things down peoples throats but rather just do what a blog does and that is provide a place for people to come together and discuss something with replies on it (blog post comments).
Knowing this comes down to experience but that's about the best first tip to running and becoming a successful blog is not to start as an affiliate blog from the start. There's billions of them! But be a cool blog that literally "blogs" about something. Then build up your readership, build your email subscriber list. Promote it as a real personal blog and not just an affiliate blog at first until you start getting a lot of readers and traffic and then later on down the line, slowly make the transition from personal blog more to affiliate blog or both still! Keep the personal vibe going, don't make every post an affiliate post, just add them in slowly over time.
Many bloggers make the mistake of running an affiliate blog from the start. But then find it hard to get readers and subscribers and they wonder why! Hello! We don't like that ****! There's billions of affiliate blogs in the world. I want to read something REAL about this subject not some copy written review. I want to read actual helpful details about this subject that I can't find on affiliate blogs, you get me?
So that's the secret my son. Keep it personal! Don't ever give the impression that you're just an affiliate blog. It puts people off. Especially if you're blogging about something that the majority of people who are interested in are savvy people like computers or IM/SEO etc.

Well blog activity increases the more that you blog. The more interesting articles you have on your blog. The more they're going to attract different people from the SERPs and any other blogs that reblog you or blog about your blog and link to you etc. Also blog comments beget more blog comments. So one the best ways to increase activity and returning visitors is to actively and heavily engage your readers in the comments section. Keep the conversations going. Be responsive and be controversial and be cool. Always be cool.
Then there's social media as well of course. Your blog could do well with a Facebook page or group. Twitter account. Pinterest profile. These days a lot more people are turning their hobbies into actual jobs. People are literally giving up the 9-5 rat race and turning their hobbies into full time jobs and incomes. As a freelancer who has any skills and abilities and talents that can provide some kind of freelance service then blogging about those skills, abilities and talents goes hand in hand with being a freelancer! These days in fact, more and more freelancers are realizing the importance and benefit that a portfolio site can bring and then running a blog on that same site. Have you considered doing something like that jkeyz or are you thinking of running an actual blog only site?
But so if you have some knowledge on something which you obviously do. Be it providing social media services or mining bitcoin or anything. If it's something that's in high demand which both are right now, then blogging about it can be profitable because you can of course sell your services and knowledge on that blog. Be it an eBook you make and sell, real time coaching lessons, webinars, or one on one training. To just placing ads on your blog with Adsense can all be multiple ways (revenue streams) of earning with your blog!
