Would backlinks count if they are on a PDF article?

I have written an ebook and I'm thinking on putting it on my site for extra information. Would the backlink on it be counted by Google?

I think I have already seen a discussion the same as this and my recollection about it is that the PDF is not able to carry a link. That means the link that was included in a PDF file will not be clickable and wouldn’t work like an ordinary backlink. But I wonder why the backlink was placed on a PDF file. Maybe there is something wrong with your question about backlinks.
