    Getting locked into a really lousy hosting deal

    Did you ever get locked into a really lousy hosting deal or pay your money up front for hosting and later had a problem with the hosting and couldn't get your money back?

    It's best to try out a hosting company using their free or lowest priced service first. Trouble shoot the site, looking for problems and get accustomed to their interface and lay out before putting any real money into hosting with that company. In that way you won't get tricked into a higher priced hosting package, if they offer lousy service. You'll know going in what to expect.

    I had this problem a couple of times in the past, but it was for really cheap web hosting sites so I didn't care to lose $1-$5 or so.

    Always make sure the hosting provider has a garuantee. This garuantee will ensure you that you can recieve your money back if you have any issues. I'd go for the 60 day money back garuantee if they have it, however 30 days is fine too.

    Are there any remedies via Paypal if a host company pulls a scam and doesn't provide the hosting? Is that money able to be recovered?

    Yes, you can simply dispute a payment via resolution center in PayPal. Hopefully you'll get a refund.

    I think it's possible my hosting company charged me double for my yearly domain name. They billed me and took the money and then rebilled and I went to Paypal and paid it manually via the invoice. I hope there is a way to get money back for the second billing as they only gave me one domain.

    This happens a lot actually, mostly on less known hosting websites. Simply contact the hosting provider, and notify them of double payment sent, and see if they'll work out a solution? You may have paid after X amount days they automatically bill you. I would check to see when they bill just to make sure this doesn't happen again, or you can request a new domain name? Haha ;)

    I have not, my first, and one of the only hosters I've used is HawkHost. Until recently I have never had a problem with them, but I am now facing a huge problem, and they seem to be careless with it. It's not the same exact thing, as it's over time. I luckily researched hosting, and got some personal reviews from other webmasters before I purchased my hosting.

    Currently, I pay by the month for hosting. And, if there's ever a problem, I'm quick to contact their customer support for a resolution. If the host will not resolve, then I will simply take my business elsewhere to a company that wants my business and money.

    I tried several hosting companies but all of them were not reliable when I started using HostGator my all problems got solved..

    So when you are new you don't know which company is good or bad.

    Unless you paid up front for a yearly hosting contract, you are not locked in. So you can simply leave and find another host that fills your needs better.

    I'm currently in my second month of a low-priced annual hosting plan and it's been good so far. I heard people say in other forums to get hosting plans from biggies because they're more reliable. I took a risk on this $1 dollar a month hosting plan for a 1GB disk space and 20GB bandwidth because I didn't want plans that will go up by 300% on renewal. This one's local and support is quite easy to reach. I actually came to know about them because of testimonials from other bloggers. The hosting company is pretty straightforward and they only have one type of plan so if you have plans of expanding your blog , there's just no way to upgrade. You can get yourself another hosting plan from them or move elsewhere. Simple and easy, that's how I got my plan. I also registered a domain with them for $10. This already included whois protection. I know I can get something cheaper from Godaddy but I didn't mind the extra money spent. It's my tuition fee for learning all these stuff. It included Wordpress hosting, too, and they're the ones who did the installation.
