How to speed up page load time

With some hosting companies, my pages load very fast. And, I'm assuming that is because they have better servers. What are some ways to speed up page load time if you are not on a good server?

To speedup it, you may try disabling some plugins, or loading images from third party site.

As a programmer, I will check if there are any obstacles that stop the site from loading fast. There are many ways that we can optimize the site to make it loads faster.
