    Did you have to confirm your phone number on Hangouts?

    Before hosting my first Google+ hang out, I was prompted to confirm my telephone number. Is this standard, such as everyone is asked?

    Confirming your telephone number is useful if you don't already have a Google+ account or if your friends don't have your email address to find your hang out.

    Agree with you on that. Confirming your phone number is like verifying you if you are the legit owner of that number. It is also use for security reasons.

    That seems like a good idea, as then you can keep your hangout more private. After all, usually only friends will have your phone number.

    That is correct. That is also a safety measures of google. Need to submit your phone number and they would verify it if its yours or not.
