    SEO on a not launched site?

    Would it be advisable to do SEO, especially link building, on a site that haven't been launched?

    Would you be linking to a live page that is viewable by search engine bots?

    If so, then you could probably do SEO for that site/page.

    I've seen situations where SEO was done for a site that had NO content and then content was added over the first few weeks. Though i've never used that method, preferring to add content first and then do SEO.

    I think I chanced upon a couple of discussions about a site that has a good ranking in search engines but has no content to speak of. Maybe the SEO works even for sites that are not launched but already in the internet. By the way, what do we really mean by launching, is it the post about the site’s opening or is it the launching in the internet? I am wondering if the site is not in the server yet then there is no site yet.

    If they are quality links, do it. Don't build blackhat links to a new site though. Google will spot this.

    That's what i've heard too. Only blast your linkwheel sites (such as Squidoo etc) with blackhat backlinking techniques. That's another thing i've heard. Though I have not done it. SEO on a not launched site?

    From what I've heard on SEO forums, that's how it's done. They build link wheels and then blast the Web 2.0 pages and not the main site. The Web 2.0 sites are usually older anyway, so it's not unusual they would gain more backlinks suddenly, where as that would be suspicious if a new site did.

    I understood now... That's how it is done by many "experts" in the field.
    Don't get me wrong, I am not really planning on doing that anytime soon.

    Same here. But I study what others are doing. From what I have read, this is considered blackhat as they blast sites with spam blackhat software. And, get many thousands of backlinks quickly. I think the same ends could be accomplished in a less artificial way though.

    When you say a site that was not launched, I am assuming that the site is on the internet already and it just didn’t get any activity since you did not market it. With that condition, doing SEO for the benefit of your site will afford it to get new traffic. But of course, one main factor of a good SEO is new contents. That means you have to be uploading new contents regularly and the contents should be directly relevant to your niche and also original. That will make your website palatable to the search engines.
