Nothing gets linked to like a good review of a popular book. Most times, you'll get backlinks from bloggers who want to add valuable content to their site without having to make an elaborate post.

I've done many book reviews for craft and gardening books, though usually linking to my Amazon affiliate bookstore. I don't think I've gotten backlinks as a result but have earned a few affiliate sales.

I also don't really see how this would work. I also think think that this is complicated by the fact that the book review would be only on a particular book which is bound to be on a particular niche. For example if I was selling clothes, how many books could I review to get back links to my fashion store? Also reading a whole book then writing a review just to get a few back links sounds like a lot of work to me. Use Youtube or something instead.
