Google can help predict a flu outbreak before it strikes

A new statistical model, built on search data collected from Google can help predict flu outbreaks up to seven weeks in advance. The results usually include a specific geographical location, allowing local medical officials time to prepare.

What is the accuracy of this method ? I mean google can't predict outbreak in every possible situation or place, right ?

It's best to get immunized against the flu before any type of travel. Don't just rely on Google to predict a hotspot of flu outbreak.

+1 to Savannah's post. Precaution is always better than cure. Also, when source isn't reliable (as accuracy is not proved) then you shouldn't take chances.

Gee, this sounds truly amazing. I think that the declaration or speculation has a basis. Maybe the data that Google has can be analyzed and evaluated for such a probability of an outbreak or epidemic. Or Google has new instruments that we do not know? Whatever the case may be, it can happen and if it happens then Google will be giving another public service to humankind.
