    When should you cut off blog post comments?

    One one of my blogs, the blog comments are still open even on posts that were up three years ago. And, I still get an occasional comment on those posts. Then again, I get a lot of spam comments on older blog posts too.

    I'm thinking about closing off blog comments for any posts that are more than a few months old. Would you do this?

    You may also wish to cut them off when people start making the same comment over and over again. This is often annoying and people just need to stop copying others.

    if you still got alot of spam that will hurt ranking your blog so i urge you to stop commenting and block the comment to stop those spammers who will hurt ranking

    There is no need to cut off comments just because you are receiving spam comments. Install captcha option so that only those who are genuinely interested in leaving comments will comment on your blog. I have articles on hubpages that were published in 2012 and they have over 300 comments. I delete spam comments and only display comments that are genuine.

    You said it yourself that one of your old blogs is getting comments and some others are getting spam comments. That shows your negligence on your blogs. If you are familiar with forums there are moderators who guard the boards for unsavory posts like spam or prohibited posts. In a blog, there should also be a monitor to check the comments. When the comment is a spam, you can either delete it or just let it stay. However when you let it stay that blog will give an impression that it is neglected.
