How many tags do you put on your blog posts?

How many tags should you use on a blog post? How many is about right to properly categorize and identify the blog post to your readers?

I don't like tagging too many times as it causes individual blog posts to appear repetively on my site. For instance, if twenty blog posts are all tagged as; webmaster, SEO, tips and tricks, tutorials; then all 20 posts will appear every time that tag is clicked in the tag cloud. That can get annoying for the blog reader.

I use so many tags as possible,I love my readers to get to see my new posts even when the dont read the section of the part that an article belongs.But they'll still get to see it through the tags

For my blogs before, I remember putting just one tag and a maximum of 3 tags only. But sometimes I couldn’t think of an appropriate keyword so the tag is just 1. I have heard that some blogs have more than 10 tags so that when there is a search, there are many keywords that can be considered. However, I also have read that Google prohibits too many tags and may penalize your website so you have to be prudent with the use of tags.
