    New forum members who keep advertising links

    How is it that some new forum members can advertise links in posts, while others can't? This is true on some forums not all.

    If I see one link to a site from a new member, I might not remove it. But if that same link pops up in all their posts and they are so obviously being spammy, then I'm likely to edit the post. I don't like deleting posts as that means lost content for a forum. A nice edit to remove does the same job.

    That's what the signature line is for to advertise your site. If a forum member consistently advertises in the forum post, they should be warned not to do so anymore.

    Posting a link once is okay but posting links frequently is tantamount to spamming already especially if a particular link is being posted again and again. To consider that the member is a newbie then a reprimand is in order. And for the repeat of the offense, I guess banning is the best remedy. But take note that spamming may have a valid reason so even if it is a violation, it can be pardoned. One example is testing the effectiveness of the forum in getting views to a blog.
