Part 2: Start To Finish - Building A Website And Profiting

This will go over Hosting Companies and what you should look for.

If you'd like to skip ahead to a section you know you need help with, use these links:
Part 1: Domain Registrars
Part 3: Web Design
Part 4: Advertising
Part 5: On Page Optimization
Part 6: Off Page Optimization
Part 7: Client Relations

When I purchase a domain from Godaddy, I will not use their hosting because I'm not s huge fan of it.

Hosting Companies

You can find a seller here on SeoClerks that can offer you hosting but if you don't want to go through a freelancer you can search always go through a bigger company by easily searching "Hosting Companies" through Google, Yahoo! or Bing. I tend to go with t35hosting.com because a while back they were on their way to compete with other big players and never had their moment to shine. They offer a great service and their CEO actually answers most of their support tickets, which is extremely rare when you think about it.

Hosting Plans

When you're setting up your hosting you probably don't need anything extravagant because you're just starting out and probably won't have an insane amount of traffic. You can set up a shared hosting account for $5 to $9 a month which is a pretty standard rate. I go through T35 because I've never had much downtime and they also offer dedicated IP addresses for your website, which is awesome Part 2: Start To Finish - Building A Website And Profiting You can pay a little more if you think you'll be getting a lot of traffic, they offer some pretty well priced plans for the hardware you're renting.

Uptime and Downtime

Now any hosting company that boasts a 100% uptime is just telling lies and you should run away as quick as possible. No one can guarantee 100% uptime because of human error, equipment breaking, bad hardware, etc. A lot of companies will say they have 99.9% uptime because they understand there is a chance that your website could go down due to server upgrades of random malfunctions. I have used plenty of hosting companies and they all offer 99.9% uptime and I've actually never seen my websites down personally. I will get a report sometimes that my site was down for a few minutes, but I'm ok with that since if I had to do the hosting myself I guarantee that my site would be down for a few hours everyday Part 2: Start To Finish - Building A Website And Profiting

This is just part 2 of at least 6 in my "Start To Finish - Building A Website And Profiting" guide.

Awesome part 2 of your tutorial Raz on the domain and website hosting part of it all. Uptime is definitely one of the main things to consider. Downtime results in upset users, less traffic and earnings and revenue for you from your site. A qood quality reliable host will have that 99% uptime. I've been with stablehost.com for about 5 years now and I can't remember one time my site was down. I guess that's why they're called stable host! But good uptime is also good for your ranking as well as if your site keeps going down, that will effect its ranking in the SERPs. All those times your site is offline, it can't be found and can't be crawled, indexed and ranked either. So this is one part of your overall website management that you will have to spend a little time researching and getting right. It can be tempting to choose a host that is very cheap but cheap comes with it's downsides too like more downtime than usual. So its worth spending a little more to make sure that your downtime is limited as much as possible. Anyway, you can get good dedicated hosting from around $5 per month these days anyway so you really don't have to spend a lot on a web hosting plan that has a 99% uptime guarantee. The hosting plan one chooses is crucial. There are various hosting plans to choose from and various considerations to take into account. It all depends on the type of site of course, and one's budget too. As you said though various other factors come into play and one should not focus solely on the price. Having said that there is no need to spend a fortune for a site that is just starting out. The downtime is important, as is the features and add ons that would be available. Customer reviews and feedback should be checked out.

Since I registered my domain with namecheap, I chose namecheap to be my web host, I chose namecheap because namecheap provides the cheapest hosting package, The basic package is $9.88, you will havr to pay $38 in the next year, however, it is still cheap considering the fact that you can host upto 3 websites with this package.
You should take a lot of care to choose a web host. Before I hosted my website, I was referred iPage. I had almost hosted my site with iPage but I decided to do some research and found namecheap to be better than iPage.

When it comes to hosting, I guess it would be best if you seek the advice of other website owners for their experiences on hosting providers. That way, you can get an idea of the cheapest and the best hosting provider. You cannot determine the downtime and technical problems unless you ask the present subscribers. Also take note of the response time when a problem is reported. Usually hosting companies would say they respond within 1 hour but that’s always true. Again, the experience of others will tell you the facts.

I see what you are saying. For a beginner I would choose to use the same provider for registering my domain and hosting. I acknowledge what you are saing, for us new ones it becomes a bit technical and complicated when we have to get these two services from different providers. I guess as time goes by and you learn more about building a website you learn which services work best for you.
