What does an SEO company actually do?

There are many SEO specialists here, but there are also several others who do not really comprehend what SEO is all about. These people do not truly understand what the job of an SEO specialist is, and so I think it is a good idea to clarify this as simply as possible. I feel that the job of an SEO company focuses on the following elements:
Carrying out analysis of the site structure, of on page and off page elements.
Based on the analysis the company will then devise a SEO strategy that will help in optimising all of these aspects.How does it do this? By choosing techniques that will help to improve the content, optimise the site structure as well as make the best use of off page factors like reviews, directories and press releases.

I guess it depend how the website owner and SEO company arrange what should be done regarding SEO, but in most cases SEO company is there to provide all aspects of search engine optimizations from keyword research, on-page optimization, off-page optimization, organizing backlinks + maybe social media marketing and other things... That's meaning of SEO company to provide whole package of SEO or some parts, depending on arrangements.
It's recommended to speak to SEO company before arranging work, to make sure what should be done and they will probably let you know after reviewing your website, because some of optimizations may be already done good enough...

Yes, SEO companies do SEO. But SEO can cover and range from many different aspects of things. From on-page SEO like content creation to good site structure, making changes to your site, adding new features like sitemaps and theme changes, code validation etc. To off-page SEO like link building and Internet marketing. A good SEO will look at all of it unless you are only hiring one that is going to do off-page SEO of some kind. Then they should look at the SEO you already have and which areas they would need to work on first for you. Unless you're buying a specific SEO service such as one of those on here that will be doing a certain thing for you. You should liaise with your SEO first to discuss what it is exactly they'll be doing and how it is that they'll be doing it!

Finding the best SEO company is a pain now a days!. Even small firms have started using multiple domains with SEO services for clients offering identical and cheap products and services.SEO market is flooded with fake providers and spam.?Make sure you get a basic understanding of SEO and its tactics before paying for a SEO compnay. Also stay away from international companies claiming to know everything about a your niche and its revenue , most of them won't be working in your country.

SEO is a new industry so I guess there is no existing standard yet when it comes to companies and specialists. Maybe we can just say that the function and purpose of SEO companies is to give your site the amount of traffic that you desire. With SEO work to be done on your site, that traffic will be coming in regularly and safely as long as the regular SEO work is continued.
