When I build a website, or pay someone to do it, I always set up all my social profiles that will be for my new website. Now I may not be active on each social profile every day, but at least no one can take my name 
My main thing with instagram is how do I build a quality following?
I think I'm doing pretty well, but I'm sure it can be better. I'm active on instagram and I get a lot of likes and comments, but not many conversions. I did find a really good programmer who freelances and I'm currently working with him on a website now, but that's the only case of instagram being useful for me
When I go to post an image I'll either use something from my website or I'll get an image from google and customize it prior to posting. During the posting process you can add some text and I'll put in a brief description of what the image is about. Now this is where I get tricky ;) I'll add a bunch of tags to my images and hope that I get a ton of random profiles to come in and follow or like my image. As for choosing my tags I've found that a good mix of highly targeted tags while mixing in a few low targeted tags is best because they highly used ones will have a chance of getting put at the top because they get popular from your current followers and the new followers you gain from being a popular image getting added to the top of a less popular tag.
Am I doing it right? For my new website/instagram profile I have around 200 followers and I'm following 600 or so. I'm following that many people because I instantly followed all my facebook friends lol
Let me know your thoughts and if you think I should add or change anything.

I don't use Instagram myself but I suppose I would build my following more or less in the same way I get fans to my facebook pages. However, Facebook and Instagram are not identical so what everything I do on FB might not work on Instagram. With that being said, Follow for follow is usually a good way to start at least, I know that much. I found an article about this.
