Is Alexa rank relevant at all?

I know that Alexa.com don't have accurate details about traffic on our websites because it depend on their toolbar and few other things which is not in use with all our visitors. I also see that so many people mentioning Alexa rank and i don't understand if it's relevant for anything with such inaccurate measurements.

Alexa rank/rating - it's a power in itself but it's not the answer to everything. It's can be a quick indicator of a websites popularity or traffic stats in the Search Engines and always has been for that reason. But yes the results are not always accurate especially for newer sites without much age to them and have a really high Alexa rating. It's only a snapshot you're seeing at that time anyway. Some people rely just on using Alexa to know whether a website that is for sale is worth buying or not but don't look at anything else (other than traffic/earning stats/screenshots). But some people will look at that along with the other metrics of that domain such as the PA/DA/TF/CF etc etc and this is recommended to build up a much more accurate and truer picture of the the domain in question rather than just relying on and using Alexa only which some people seem to take as an authority on whether a domains Alexa rating/rank makes it a viable domain for them or not. That's not smart business practice because at the end of the day it's just a 3rd party metric site Google doesn't use them when they could just disappear and go offline at any minute in their algorithms in any way shape or form - as far as I'm aware. I've been told that same thing by many top SEO's and IM's for around the last 10 years too. That's just my 2 cents on Alexa though! Is Alexa rank relevant at all?

If you are considering buying a website for sale, you should always get a look at the real traffic sites. Another good point is that Alexa isn't often used by anyone other than webmasters. For example, the baby clothes community probably do not have the Alexa toolbar installed but may have a website that gets thousands of visitors per day.

It use to be but isn't now. They recently changed something and I don't know what but I've seen sites go up (negative) when I know for a fact that their traffic is increasing. It is (and always was) extremely inaccurate since it only measures by people who have their addon installed.

It is not the most accurate tool because it only measures traffic that installed their toolbar. However, it is a pretty good way to get a rough estimate of the website traffic. It is nearly impossible to get accurate results of traffic of websites without installing something on their server but Alexa provides a way to get some information about their traffic. Every website uses the same criteria so the information isn’t that bad and since Alexa uses a comparison measurement, it is a fairly decent way to compare your traffic with other websites. This isn't really relevant in anything but it gives you a good comparison of how well your website is doing compare to your competitors.

I personally don't find the Alexa ranking any useful. Some of the time you may find that alexa traffic may lead to some random data. As there is no specific value being stored and no guestimate close to accurate. So that may want you to think how good is this data. I personally don't value the ranking. And another point there is no perfect algorithm.

Alexa rank can be manipulated. For example, if you buy traffic or use PTC or TE, you will gain a large traffic and your rank will substantially improve. Even though Alexa rank can be manipulated, Alexa rank actually matters, you can show how popular your website is by giving alexa stats. If you are trying to pull advertisers or wnated to flip the site, you can use Alexa stat.

My take on Alexa is that it is the most trusted site when it comes to the amount of traffic. And even if some of the comments say that the numbers are not accurate I still believe that Alexa ranking is important for website owners who are doing SEO work because Alexa ranking is one way of knowing the position of the site in terms of competition. Some factors affect the number of traffic temporarily but it will subside sooner or later.
