Which type of site map are you using?

Site maps are an essential SEO tool that allow for Google to index your site pages.

And there are two types of site maps:

1. An HTML sitemap is mostly used for your site visitors benefit to help them find their way around the site

2. An XML sitemap is more for the benefit of search engines as it allows them to crawl your site in an easier manner.

And, while both site maps have use, an HTML site map is most beneficial especially if you are a blogger. Do you agree?

I agree and think that both of them (XML and HTML site maps) are very important in terms of improving your on-page SEO and site usability. XML site maps are what Search Engines can use to better see, access, crawl and index all the pages/posts etc on your site.

Where as HTML site maps are much more people friendly and allow your sites visitors to also find all the pages/posts/categories etc on your site quickly which can facilitate them to find something much quicker on your site instead of having to click through x amount of posts or pages before they are able to find what they're looking for because everything is on one page.

Another good thing to have which is similar to an HTML site map is an archive page. Archive pages are similar to HTML site maps in that they list all your latest posts or pages in ascending chronological order. So each time you add a new post to your blog or page to your site, it will show at the top of that archive page so people can see what the latest pages/posts etc are. I've used archive pages on some of my sites and they are indexed like any other page and can help speed up the indexing of all your posts/pages too.

At the end of the day, not having a either an XML or an HTML sitemap wont necessarily mean that you'll be punished for that but it's one of those things that are better to have and not need, than it is to need them and not have them if that makes sense. Which type of site map are you using?

Absolutely Site Maps are very important for SEO. Also if you have video content on your sites don't forget to add a video Sitemap.
Also people have suggested that adding a video Sitemap can help to get your other content indexed quicker too.

I feel that sitemaps are often underestimated. In reality they are very important for SEO purposes. The fact that on a single page you can basically map out the contents of the whole site, with the various sections and links is just great. Simply put it is like a summary of your site, and this summary comes in handy for search engines. Navigation is also improved thanks to sitemaps and updating the site becomes much easier. In fact sitemaps are also helpful when some updates are carried out as they inform the search engines about this, and this in turn helps to get your pages indexed a bit more quickly. Any broken links can be dealt with more easily too when there is a sitemap. Many find sitemaps helpful to classify the content of the site. When considering all of these advantages it would be highly recommended to have a sitemap on your site. Many are in fact considering sitemaps as being an extension to their site, and as a way to lead visitors to find what they are looking for on the site. And, apart from this, at the same time search engine spiders will also be able to benefit from the sitemap too, and this will affect SEO.
