    How long could it take new websites to start showing up on search engines?

    Anyone know? For example say you start a new website selling a niche product such as fancy wines or gifts how long do you think it can take for websites to start getting traction?

    I know it can be varied between sites but is there anyway to see how their new website is perceived by the market place?

    It depends, if you do your promotion in regular timely manner, it will be easy to get picked by search engines. Try to ping the new URLs regularly. But don't over-do it. Create backlinks slowly and ping them too. Within a shorter period your links will get indexed.

    A new website can start appear on Google (and other search engines) within a day or it will take weeks. It all depends on your site submission to Google and when Google Bot crawl your website. Try to ping your new site using "Ping-o-Matic" and do smome backlinking on high PR websites.

    I think the website needs to get a thousand traffic before the search engine can take notice. It is like saying that small time websites have no right to be in the search list. I have read that in one discussion but I believe that is true. However, promoting the new website is imperative anyway so you might as well make a plan for a marketing launch for your website and in a week or 2, it will appear in the search list.
