Why is Google killing Google Reader?

As a standard, RSS was designed by technical people, mainly for technical people. It provided a convenient way to digest huge amounts of information efficiently.

However, RSS was not designed with the advertising industry in mind. Advertisers want tracking, which is why email lists have always been popular. RSS did not provide a way to segment traffic in a way which made sense to them. Custom feeds were designed as an add-on feature to RSS to placate advertisers; it was not baked into the RSS specs.

Google is an online media advertising company which gets its revenue from advertisers. This means that they need to promote tools and services which provide maximum benefit to advertisers.

Google is busy concentrating in Android, Search engines and SEO, so it is common that they miss/ignore something that may affect people or a functionality accepted my millions of people. If google turns its attention towards google reader then you will find interesting options and features.

More specifically, Page's disinterest in the service essentially scared off any engineering leads to take over the reins. It simply was no longer a priority, not that it ever was given Reader's genesis, which started as a pet project. So, why work on something that the big boss doesn't care about? After all, it's not going to get you any attention or awards.

I know that,Google Reader’s sharing features were converted to corresponding Google+ ones, users of the soon-to-be-killed service. this activity dropped as Google pushed Reader users to sharing on Google+ instead. Still, it’s great to see the reasoning laid out by a former insider, and his thinking makes perfect sense to us, especially given what executives have said about Google Reader and Google+ in the past. Thank You
