Old URL still being indexed by google?

Basically, my website is at... www.website.com/subject

As this is not professional, I purchased subject.com created the addon domain and did a 301 redirect.

So now, my website should ONLY only appear to be at subject.com

However, it's been several months since I did this and still google indexes both URL's. Some search terms display the old URL and some display the new URL.

Can anyone please explain this?

Google indexes sites like that and your old URL possibly still has some content that Google had archived and indexed and it continues to update its list of recent ones. If you don't want Google to index the old URL, try looking up how to stop it from indexing the old URL. That way, only the new URL is being indexed.

Hello,

This happens to me also, which is very annoying. Google states that if the page is deleted than it will be removed, however some of my deleted pages from months ago are still not removed yet. Anyways, there is ways to fix this.

Login to your Google Webmaster Account and find "URL removal tool". Enter the URLs you want removed and the pages should be removed from search results.

I don’t think search engines spend time in cleaning its index list. They are only interested in the current. My husband’s office has that same problem with their website because the old URL still appears on the search list. Even the officers of their office are complaining but no one could explain why that old URL was still there and included in the search list. Well, it’s the call of search engines and I’d say their index needs cleaning.
