    Definitely, yes, absolutely! Blogs can be the life blood of your very website. While websites are static and don't change much, unless you add a new product/service or page to it. Blogs are dynamic and are updated often with new fresh content that is related to your niche/industry. By using, running and maintaining a blog you can write about all the popular things in your niche or industry that you might not be writing about or including on your site. So they're like a separate voice for your site that are very useful for SEO purposes. Most big websites have a blog on them of some kind and they're updated every once in a while. Sometimes the more the better. But they can help your sites visitors to find content they might be interested in that you've discussed on your blog. Without it, they will find that content else where!

    If you want to have visitors from search engines, yes,you should SEO your site. If you want a personal blog with visitors coming from social networks only like facebook,twitter etc you can skip the SEO part.

    Yes, a blog plays a key role. Any SEO consultant will highly suggest you to create a blog. Because it gives exposure & traffic. I prefer to create a blog.

    SEO is a technique to increase visibility of your website in search engines thus increasing the chances of ranking high and getting organic traffic. If you have a website, you should definitely optimize it for search engines. However, creating a secondary website for the SEO of the first website does not work. A lot of people create websites just to generate backlinks for their main site. Backlinks is one of the SEO techniques. However, backlinks should be done only on authoritative sites.

    I think the blog is good for SEO as long as you are doing the normal chores of a blogger which is creating good contents that are not copied in part of in whole from another website and you uploading your blog regularly like more than once week. The SEO work on your blog will give you good traffic just for the contents so you can get a better ranking if you do some other SEO methods like the keywords and the backlinks.
