    I heard Google only considers do-follow links.

    No-follow links are useful. They still count as backlinks in search engines.

    They make your link building campaigns look more 'real' in the eyes of the search engines.

    So if you are blasting 100 links with the same anchor text that are all dofollow, Google won't like it.

    But if you have 100 links where 75 are dofollow, 25 are nofollow and it is spread across with the use of about 4 different keyword anchor texts, Google will think that the site that is being linked to is legit.

    They will not help you rank. But they help with your link diversity by having a wide range of links from multiple sources making it look a bit more natural. But then it could also hurt if the links are on totally irrelevant sites and look spammy with 200 other poorly posted blog comments.
